What's up with Lady Gaga?
I've been out of step for a while now so don't know what's going on with pop culture lately. I just happened to tune in to Jay Leno's show and saw he had a guest dressed like a super heroine. Turned out to be Lady Gaga. How talented is she?

In making herself noticed? Very
In singing? Not so much. Has great marketing value. She's a product, nothing more. Think spice girls... |

Last year the fresh meat dress (truly). This year she arrives in some egg pod thing to the Grammys. Not my thing...at all. |

The meat attire is also not new. She's very creative, though. I see her as a human window display and just about as annoying.

She has some very good songs, and, if you listen to the ones that aren't big hits, a good voice. I like her. Sure, her costumes are over the top. I remember when people dismissed Elton John with his wacky outfits. Not saying GaGa is of that caliber, she's only done a couple albums so time hasn't had a chance to tell.
GaGa is almost the only current musician/singer that my 14 y/o daughter likes. (For reference, her most-played iPod list currently is Hendrix, the Doors, John Mayer, and David Bowie. She's going through a rock phase I suppose.). However, she (daughter) is disappointed at her (GaGa's) latest single, feeling it is a rip-off of Madonna's ''Express Yourself''. |

Lady Gaga
They had an interview on 60 minutes with her last Sunday. I do not care for her music but I think she is very smart marketing wise. She went from zero dollars to 100 million in 4 years. She reminds me of Garth Brooks, more of a marketing whiz than real music talent.

I'll never understand her attraction but then again at my age, she doesn't care.

Brilliant marketing. Great video production. The costumes, the attitude & the whole schtick was right out of the Madonna play book. Which was out of the Elton play book . . . which was out of the . . .
There has to be some talent lurking somewhere. Time will tell. But it is fun to watch 'The Machine' at work. Ian

From the 60 minutes interview it is obvious she has some talent, and is not exactly shy. She is making lots of honest money. Good for her. It would be somewhat interesting to know the real person behind the costumes, but not that interesting that I really care. She is living the American dream, or her version of it.

Search YouTube for Bad Romance - 345 MILLION views. Crank up the volume & enjoy. Excellent intro to what GaGa does/is.

I HATE her marketing, although it seems to be genious.
What is undeniable is that she is a musical genious on par with Elton John. Her talent is real, and very rare. You guys won't believe me, so here she is before "Gaga" as a normal girl singing two original, complex songs that she wrote and composed herself. Whether she will be the next Madonna is still in question. She dresses for attention. But if you hear her interviews (not watch) you get a very different impression.
One of my nieces really likes her and my sister will be going to her first concert in years (chaperon). Not really my kind of music, and I'm not into those kind of staged musical numbers. But a singer with a bunch of backup dancers has been popular in this country for almost 100 years.

Remember Madonna when she came out? Off the wall, kind of freaky, but now she has shown that she is quite the singer/songwriter. GaGa is just filling the void needed today by people who need this kind of singer, off the wall, freaky. What comes around, goes around. She plays a mean piano.

She is quite brilliant. She attended an exclusive private Catholic school in NYC on scholarship and was selected for various future genius-type programs in the City. She didn't finish high school because she was admitted early to NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. Legend has it that she wrote a 30 page paper on pop culture for a class while she was pursuing a record contract. She realized she could turn her intellect into a blueprint for success in the music industry and so she did.
Her music isn't my taste; there would be something wrong with one of us if it was. I prefer this: YouTube - Lady Gaga - My Muffintop - Poker Face Parody-YouTube.mov to the real thing. But to say she doesn't have talent is wrong.

On the 60 minutes interview she was quoted as saying she doe NOT lip sync. That would be different from most of the current "singers" that only sound good with computer enhanced studio recordings. I would feel cheated to pay to see a live performance and find it was just a studio recording with lip sync.
