This is a Winchester LoWall, made in 1903. It was orginally a Winder Musket chambered in .22 short. When I bought it, it had been reblued and the stock shortened. Since it's collector value was pretty well gone, I decided to build it into something "different". I relined the barrel and chambered it for .22 mag, added the parts to make it a single set trigger and whittled a new stock with correct drop, castoff, etc. so that I can close my eyes, shoulder the rifle and be looking right thru the scope! The scope is a 6.5 - 20x w/target turrets. On a good day (for me) it will put 5 shots under a nickel at 100 yds. The "normal" trigger pull is about 4 lbs and when the trigger is "set" it is about 6 ounces. The finish on the stock is many coats of hand rubbed oil. This was the first time that I tried stock making and it took many months to complete! I was fortunate in that it turned out much better than I had any reason to expect!!

thing was to design a high cheek piece that would allow for a tall cheek weld but did not look out of place on the stock. The way the receiver is built, there are two long extensions that run from the end of the receiver back into the wrist of the stock. Because of the upper finger, I could not start the front of the cheek piece any sooner than is shown. I considered shortening the upper finger, but that is where some of the Winchester markings are located. With a 3" eye relief, this scope allows me to place my head in a comfortable position while shooting. I started to put a schutzen style butt plate on it, but decided to use a Winchester marked red pad instead. All of the wood work was done with hand tool such as chisels and scrapers. The stock and forend came out of the same walnut blank.
