180 Miles

Over 2 days, starts on Saturday.

Yep, another Houston-Austin MS150. This is number 4 for me and I'm, also doing Boston to Provincetown around Cape Cod this year in June.

We had a landslide on our route to town last week. I was driving 230 miles round trip to work for 4 days. Had to detour all the way to Astoria. Put my wife and kids in a Hotel so she could get to work and the kids to school. I had to go home to take care of the dogs, cat, bird, fish and horses. It was a long week. I was working 12 hour days commuting for 5 hours, not much sleep in there.

Badass, have fun!

The ride around the Cape sounds like fun.

Red- I live 15 min from the start point in Sturbridge for the pan-mass. If you need anything in the area let me know.

Porsche-O-Phile 04-15-2011 06:20 AM

Hey send me the info for that - I'm game.

Grog 04-15-2011 09:34 AM

HehHeh, sorry about the post here, I just looked up the MS 150. I thought you were talking about driving. oops

James, maybe I'll see you there. Look for the tall skinny guy in the NRG Energy/Reliant Energy jersey.

Come by the Saint Arnolds Tent. I'll buy you a beer.

red-beard 04-18-2011 04:39 AM

Still a bit tired today (but it's a good kind of tired). We had almost ideal weather conditions. I finished before 1PM on Saturday and 1:15 on Sunday. Sunday would have been 45+ minutes earlier, but we had a late start and one of my friends was a bit slow from allergies.

David 04-18-2011 05:41 AM

Good to see you too. The only problem with riding 85 miles (we left from Rhodes stadium) to a social event is you don't have any energy left to be social. Not to mention you want to make sure you can get up and do another 80 the next day.

I've been riding a lot lately so my average speed was pretty good. I finished at 11:30 both days but lost about 30 minutes on Sunday due to extreme right lateral knee pain. Luckily it didn't happen in the hilly state park section or I would not have finished the ride. The last 20 miles on Sunday was one of the toughest and most painful things I've ever done.

I'll be off the bike for a week or two, but when I get back on I'll move my right pedal out to get correct foot position. Something I should have done 25 years ago.

Glad you guys both made it. Now I am hitting up craigslist looking for a road bike on the cheap after the MS.

red-beard 04-18-2011 08:01 AM

You'll find one. Go ahead and get a cheap entry level bike to try out the sport. If you like it, you sell the bike for the same price and get a better one next year. Don't go cheap on accessories, or if you do, go super cheap.

I really like my Garmin for recording all of the stuff I do.

BRPORSCHE 04-18-2011 08:26 AM

James, I am thinking about a 500-600 price range. Sound about right?

red-beard 04-18-2011 08:43 AM

Maybe less. 500-600 might get you above a used entry level bike. If you see something, e-mail me to help you and I can bring the tools for a PPI.

red-beard 04-18-2011 08:47 AM

Oh, and go to a bike shop and get "fitted" so you know what size to look for.
