BlackBerry Vs HTC
 

To be honest... I'm a cheap old ba$tard on a low budget and will probably keep my old Nokia stupid phone that works fine and is free (no data plan charges).

However contract is up and upgrade is a possibility and the techno boy inside me has been surfing the net.

Criteria is, first around $100, second must have good call quality.

Wife love to text :rolleyes: I like to check email, I also fly a lot so maybe a few games to pass the time, don't care about the camera... handy gadget but not a deal breaker.

Played with wifes LG Optimus android... fun but not sure I like the touch screen thing, thus the Black Berry comes into the mix... never handled a BlackBerry.

Next if I do go touch screen (HTC) HD7 has Windows Vs My Touch 4G has Android.

What think ye?

The HTC phones are going to be battery hogs... Just a fair warning.

For playing though, I would pick the android phone. Blackberrys are really good for business emails, and that is it... The web browser blows, downloading new apps is a pain, and there aren't just a ton of games written for it.

I have played with a MyTouch and an optimus... The MyTouch definitely works better.


If I was going to stray from the iPhone camp, it would be an HTC android phone... most likely the inspire...

Blackberry is the best one for typing, just borrow and iphone and try to type something, in 5 seconds you'll find your answer.

What the HTC WP7 does, it does very well, perhaps better than the other 2. But it is in its infancy. Don't look for the depth and breath of games and apps that Android has. But if you want to surf, text and email, IMO it is among the best. I carry an Android simply because there are too many apps WP7 doesn't have. . . Yet.

Also FWIW, my daily phone is HTC Inspire and I really love it. But I also own a Samsung Focus WP7 and will use it from time to time. The Inspire can use a lot of battery while the Focus is no where near as bad.

Is a Motorola android phone available? Mine has a slide out and virtual keyboard. I never use the slide out keyboarad anymore. My previous phone was an HTC windows based phone. It was fantastic, except for the deplorable battery life which Sidney has already stated. I made a habit of carrying spare batteries.

I'm assuming by the MyTouch that you are wanting to go with TMobile? Have you looked at the G2?

That may be the right answer between the blackberry and the iPhone.

I agree that the keyboard on the iProducts sucks.

What you really need to get your hands on is an Android phone that's running Swype. I believe it's in the Guinness Book of Records for being used by the kid that set the record for sending the most texts or fastest texts or something like that.

It's light years ahead of everything else right now.

I have the G2, great phone. I had the G1 before it. I got them because I could VPN into my last company's network and SSH to network devices. It was nice if I was on call or at lunch and got a call. If it wasn't for that, I'd probably have gotten the MyTouch 4G which is basically the same, except it trades a second camera for the keyboard.

I don't think either the G2 or the MT4G are $100.

If he's going to get something Android based, I'd definitely make sure that it runs 2.2 or better.

My G2 is running 2.3. Battery life is great.

Well I was a Blackberry owner for a long time and they are definitely great, businesswise is good as they say with the push e-mail capabilities and easy to use keyboard.......then one day I purchased a windows based unit which really sucked and then I got me an iPhone which is great too but the At&T awful customer service and whatnot kinda forced me to go into the Android territory, what the heck was that 'green thing' doing with communications I said ? hahahaha.....
I've been using the HTC Incredible for over six months now and is simply fantastic. I don't play games of any kind with it so the use is primarily business and personal, 4 e-mail accounts with reminders if I miss a message, easy to use texting, adobe, office, a fast browser, sweet camera plus an obsene amount of apps....... it does everything that the others do but twice as fast and the customizing capabilities are almost endless ! lately I find myself having a hard time picking up the iPhone but having an even harder time putting down the Incredible. IMO the HTC phones with the Android platform have evolved at a very advanced rate and you can't go wrong if you decide to purchase one. The only downsides are the battery which runs out faster than a 100 dollars bill, then again I always carry an extra one so that deal has been resolved and the second one is that you'll probably get addicted to it pretty fast. Just my 2 cents! good luck with your selection...

Is that the same as the HTC Touch Pro 2?

Been with T-Mobile for 7 years, just changed to family plan and added wife and SD... so yeah... sticking with T-Mobile for a while.

The HTC has a bigger screen than my wifes LG so using the HTC touch screen may be better.

Probably not going to do much web surfing... much prefer desktop with a big screen for that.

+1 Android with swype. My first smartphone was a BB and I thought the physical KB was good until I jumped ship. It took me about 10 minutes to get comfortable with swype and now I can't imagine trying to email/text without it.

Battery usage is a mixed bag. I have 5 email accounts linked to my phone. Battery would not last a full day when configured to pull every 10 minutes. I modified account settings to pull on request only and my phone now goes all day with about 50% battery left. Big difference. That is with WiFi enabled and GPS turned off.

Definitely find a phone running 2.2 or higher.

Quick look at the T-mobile shows the Motorola Charm and CliQ as android.

Edit: Also see the G2... G2 and 4G are $199... not too bad.

And, I have always been a Nokia guy... but the reviews for the 73E are really bad.

I really like my WP7 phone (Focus) and the HD7 seems like a great phone. The LG at AT&T isn't great, it's an odd form factor.

I have so far only found one person that had a WP7 phone and didn't really like it, but he's a user of very specific social netowrk features that he had on an iPhone that I never really miss because I wasn't used to how that worked. (And that was also the same person with the LG)

I was always a Nokia guy before I got the G1. I didn't have any Nokia smart phones, but the regular phones were great phones, great reception, speakers, etc.... They just worked well.

My G2 seems to work just as well, but does a ton of other stuff too. It would really suck to have to go back to a phone that was not an Android.

The best deal going is the $49 iPhone 3GS 8gig.

Millions of people type on an iPhone every second. It is fine. I do it all day long.

The androids are good phones too.

Blackberries suck. Worst portable internet device I have ever used.

Unless T-Mobile starts selling iPhones looks like I'm aiming at an android.

Seriously, take a look at the HD7, a Windows Phone 7. For what you are talking about, it may well better fit your needs, including battery life.

And the price is right at $99

I'm going to stick with what I have until T-mobile & AT&T officially marry. Motorola has a new Android phone with a rotate out physical keyboard. It looks slick. I HATE the HTC HD2 touch screen. Everything else is great on the HD2. The HD7 is in a lot of respects better than the HD2, but WP7 is missing quite a few feature from WM6.5, like built in tethering.
