I use plastic bags for used kitty litter, my cat craps a lot.

We also recycle them at the local "buy the pound" store for others to use.

Unless a plastic bag has meat juice or flour all over it, it gets at least one more use.

100% of plastic bags that come into my household are recycled to pick up dog poo.

I have two large dogs, they make two doodies a day each on average, so that's 730 plastic bags per year.

We don't get enough bags through normal shopping activity, so we have friends that give us their excess bags, and we sometimes grab them from the recycle bin at the local supermarket. I need an environmentally friendly dog doo pickup and disposal option if I am going to give up plastic bags.

I have total confidence than NONE of the plastic bags I throw away make it into the ocean.

We have our PCA autocross at a site next to Mt. Trashmore in OKC. There is a huge fence around the place and there are plastic bags all over the fence. Not just the grocery bags but lawn bags and trash bags of evey size and shape. The trash bags are 99% of what is on the fence. How can we ever go back to no trash bags?

Go to almost any business and you will see plastic bag liners in every trash can, and they are all collected and put in a bigger bag to go to the trash pickup. Every hotel room, every hospital, and on and on.

Many stores are starting to charge for bags, which is good.
Even though shoppers get furious at paying $.05 after spending $150-200 on groceries, it's a small reminder to bring bags with you.

In Japan, the housewives carefully fold the plastic bags into small triangles with care and attention or bring cloth ones.

The Krogers here has a bin for used bags, and the Lowes has a bin for used batteries.
This convienience means that the recycle program will actually get utilized.

One problem is there aren't decent ergonomic shoping bags sold. All the ones I've seen for sale have lightweight bottoms and short straps which cut into the fingers and pull the shoulder out of whack. A good shopping bag would be made of burlap/hemp/nylon with a reinforced web and a long padded shoulder strap.

( George, try the Premium Choice cat litter in the light blue and white bag. It's one of the cheapest and at the pet store(Petsmart I think) in the S.Main Buschs mall.
Clay based and still tracks sand(put a carpet in front), but no odor, no dust, and good clumping.
We've tried three different kinds and this works the best. No affiliation of course. )

I HATE those plastic grocery bags. I currently have two stuck in the tops of my trees and they look like crap. They're 40+ feet up and I have no way of getting them down. While driving down the road I'll see them stuck in trees and bushes all the time. My wife brings her own cloth bags to the store so we're doing our part.

Kauai has banned the use of plastic bags in the stores recently. First time I had to take the groceries out to the car after shopping it was dumping rain. The bags were melting by the time I got to the car. I'm thinking, now I remember why we went to plastic in the first place.
We were stockpiling them for some time before the end. For lining trash cans etc. about to run out now. What, go buy bags for the purpose?

We re-use ours for trash can liners, lunch bags, etc. Still ends up in the dump though.
