Anyone from anywhere else in the US visiting Philly may want to as well.

It's funny to hear you say this Shaun. Wasn't there a guy carrying an umbrella at the Burlington mall last month who had the regional swat team hovering above because the BPD thought he was carrying a semi automatic?

I guess anyone visiting Boston with an umbrella should be careful then too.

Not at all. I'm talking in general. I think the cops were jerks and I think the provocateur was a jerk.

nynor 05-17-2011 01:49 PM

fair enough.

they did have their guns drawn, apparently. which seems like a pretty absurd escalation to me. jerks all around.

really? that's 20 minutes away from me. the Sears there has a good tool department.

What happened to the guy with the umbrella?

I think he ended up on the Today show the following day. The guy is local and works at Lahey Clinic or something.

The public should have this protection from abuse. I'm pro police. In the court of law the judge will trust the police not the citizen. Recordings give the citizen a fair voice in the fight for his/her judgment.

Bingo! The LE in many cases have LOST our trust, especially after incidents like this.

I have carried a audio/video recorder for a long time for things like this. The LE have not been above board so this is done to CYA. He may have had an attitude but he was right, and was hassled for no reason IMHO.

So nice to live in a state where OC is totally legal and culturally acceptable. I've never been hassled at all by cops here for OC'ing on my bike, occasionally in the grocery store. At worst, I'd think they'd stop me to just to admire my sidearm, since they all have to carry Glocks around here.

Shaun, here's a link to that story. One of my colleagues lives near there and heard the helicopters hovering over her house that whole morning..

How? You have a long rifle, it's in a gun bag, it's over your shoulder and you just bought it or on the way to a gunsmith......WTF are you suppossed to do? Ship the damn thing via UPS?

You might want to rethink that comment.....the reaction was totally overblown. I now realize my move from the lands of lemmings was justified.
