Tire sealer, good, bad, ugly?

Got a new (almost a year old now) econobox with aluminum wheels.

It has the "tire pressure monitor" (TPS).

Lately the little yellow tire on the dash lights up about once a week... I get out my tire gauge and air compressor... factory spec is 34 PSI, one or more tires are at approx 30 PSI.

As a weekly chore this is starting to get old.

Would squirting some tire sealer into the tires put and end to this?

Will tire sealer ruin the tires? Wheels? The TPS?

Thanks in advance.

IMO, this would not be a good idea for this kind of problem. i keep tire sealer in the cars i own for emergencies.

it might put an end to the problem.

it can cause the tires to be out of balance and it becomes a PITA for the guy changing the tires.

my bullitt Mustang came with no spare and a can of goo...That has been rectified. I now carry a spare.

But...the word on the Bullitt Forum is to avoid the goo...use it, and you get to spend $$$ on a new pressure sensor.

The goo will ruin the sensor.

The seals (o-rings) on the TPMS unit are likely to blame. They can be finicky.
It sounds like it's under warranty -- just bring it in and they'll replace the seals or the sensors.

+1. i believe my car's manual states NOT to use sealant because it will ruin the TPMS.

i agree, i bet it is a 3 cent o-ring giving you fits.

I know... it is not the 0-ring but the half day wasted to get it fixed that bothers me.
