NYC to Portland Maine

I tried over in regional but got no replies so apologies if you have seen this one before. I have to run up from NYC to Portland Maine for work next week. I'm upset because I have to miss Hershey, but to make up for it I'm thinking about driving the 911 up.
Can anyone recommend a good/scenic route, anything that's unmissable on the way there or back.
Thanks

Depends on how much time you have to make the trip -

NY 22N up to NY7E to VT 9E to NH202 would be a good drive.

Points along the way include:
Bennington and Brattleboro,VT
Keene, Hillsboro and Concord, NH

Drops you into Sanford, ME and then you'd have to go NE to finish up in Portland.

Google Maps says it will add about 2.5hrs onto the trip compared to going up 84 or 95, but will be much more scenic and better driving roads.

+1 on that route !!!!

I've taken that many times on my way from Wells Maine to my folks place in Hillsdale NY.
Roads are in great shape and they were kind enough to put in plenty of passing lanes before the twisty sections.
Leave early , drive fast.

You will not be disappointed.
There is really no bad section on that drive and it may take a bit longer but you won't want it to end.

We've gone from our house in southern Worcester county in MA, up to Brattleboro driven Rt 9 out to Bennington back for a day trip.

Have a great drive.

One alteration I make is that I take 202 in Concord to 4 to 16 to Portsmouth, NH.
Portsmouth is a great town. Well worth a visit.
The secondary roads between 89 and the coast were bad before and took a real beating this winter.

Have a great trip.
