Roush Mustangs
 

I am considering a used Roush Mustang (stage 3). Anyone have insight on these cars? I have owned Mustangs in the past, the last being an 89 Gt with extensive mods.

Other than thinking many Roush Mustang see some hard duty, not much opinion...other than Roush is pretty well experienced at building fast Fords...;) Most of his hotter cars are blown...I prefer normally aspirated power.

Paul is right. This forum is a tough neighborhood to discuss Mustangs. I like the normally aspirated cars myself. Today, it was it the mid 90s and the Boss 302 pulled hard all day. My 930 would have been heat soaked in 30 minutes.

Maybe you can get a used Mustang and toss a Boss 302 crate engine in? 440 hp without assistance.

Was it "adult owned" by any chance?

Thanks all for the input. I like the total engineered package that comes with a Stage 3 or 427R Mustang. Noah they are all "adult" owned due to the high cost of entry.

+1 on the above. Roush builds great cars. The owners, however, fall into two camps:

-"Look at my car" guys who spend time polishing the fenders, and

-Track junkies.

I have some friends that are Mustang Freaks. "His" is a Shelby, "Hers" is a Stage II Roush.

I guess you didn't get my point. From my line of thinking, this isn't just a neat car. It's a performance car with significant modifications. Possibly by some guy who is going to wring out every last horsepower, every chance he gets. So if he doesn't fall into the garage queen fender polisher clique, this is a car where a thousand miles is a lot when they're put on 1320 feet at a time.

Around here, it seems like the guys with American iron (and some late model exotica) who show up at the Cars 'n Coffee type meets frequently leave in a cloud of smoke. On cold motors. I'm never buying a used car from one of them.

Were I looking for one of these, I'd probably be even more careful than usual. Best of luck.

I had a nice parking lot chat with a guy from a nearby town who has a nice '08 427R...he stripped it of decals. Darned good lookin' ride! This guy used his on an 80 mile round trip daily commute, claims it's dead reliable, gets great (20 mpg +)mileage cruising 70-80.

Of course, a well set up 944 is superior. :rolleyes:

Anyway, I'm sure folks on the s197 forums who own Roush cars will have opinions without slamming the cars.

Noah I get it now, I want to get one of the many "waxers" that only get driven to the Ford shows. Paul I agree about the graphics, a little too much bling for me. The Roush Black Jack version looks bad ass to me with the shiny rims. I like the Shelby Super Snake but way too spendy for a summer toy. There is a used Dan Gurney and Parnelli Jones for sale up here but I do not care for the colors (red/orange). The Shelby GT seems like just some stripes and a special grille. I have time on my side.

Ahhh, I'd like to do that swap. AFAIK, the bugs (electronic controls & electric power steering) haven't been worked out yet. Maybe later...plus, seems silly to jerk a 4.6 with only 6700 miles on it.

The best of both worlds...5.0 Boss power with the understated Bullitt looks.

Aren't fantasies fun? :)

CMDR, the 427R I saw looked really great with all the vinyl graphics removed. Good luck in your hunt.
