Fireworks this year

It used to be that there are a few people around who had illegal private fireworks shows. They were always pretty pathetic. But this year! Last night and tonight there were fireworks shows at a dozen places within sight of my house that rivaled the municipal fireworks displays. They must have cost thousands each. From 9PM to 10PM I could look up from my back yard in any direction and see fireworks. I was in town at about 8:30 tonight and there were good fireworks shooting up from about every back yard in the uh, "ethnic" neighborhood. The smoke on the street was so thick I could hardly see to drive.
What gives? Half the towns are too broke to have a fireworks display, but individuals don't seem to have any problem spending thousands on them.

Only one fireworks show this year, and that was downtown Houston. Everything else was cancelled and they shutdown selling of fireworks in most counties in Texas. We are in an extreme drought and it appears that most people kept with the ban.

the only thing that saved us the last 2 nights was the "weather gawds". mega ha-boob sunday night and then a mega ha-boob last night. lots of nasty lightning, dust clouds, insane winds, and about 3/4" of rain.

cooler heads prevailed and no wild land fires attributed to idiots with fireworks so far this am.

at least i dont smell burning dezert yet this am.

I live in the fireworks capital of America. The Zambelli's live at the end of our road, and the people that own Pyrotechnico live around here too. You should have been around here last night. My dog needs therapy today.

I miss sparklers... but I am not in to doing jail time to light one. :(

Myself and two or three families used to buy $500+ each of fireworks every year and have a big street party. We had a blast lighting off everything we could using propane torches for several hours. Good times. :)

last nite, u couldn't tell that Chicago and whole state of Illinois was a fireworks illegal state.

We were setting off everything from small bottle rockets and saturn missiles to 1"-3" cakes and mortars. Chicago police more than one time drove by w/o even stopping. There was a bonfire on the other side of the block that the fire dept got called on. After the firetruck finishes extinguishing it, they drove by and yelled "awesome show!" and gave us a thumbs up.

fireworks are "ILLEGAL" hehe. funny ain't it?

Major burn ban here as well. Only one town in the area had a show. Oh the casino did too... Started several small grassfires, the idiots.....

last year i didnt have fireworks in indy, but i did go through a couple of 30 round conversion mags in my SKS. this year it was quiet here in california.

In my area, the lower the income level, the more impressive the fireworks. The family who lived across the street from us were evicted last year always had the best fireworks. I'm sure they spent thousands on illegal fireworks each year and they didn't make their house payments. Strange...

Huge municipal show in Culver City as usual. Probably 2500 in attendance. Came back to the remains of some scattered neighborhood shows that must've been pretty swell. One neighbor randomly shot off firecrackers until midnight. Heard a spent bullet hit the roof at one point. Haven't gone up to see if it penetrated the shingles...

When I first moved to El Lay, my first 4th in the Hollywood Hills, someone not too far away was doing short bursts from an AK. Not too many people shoot in the air on the West side, though.

Every other street around Hawthorne/Del Aire was blocked off, people lighting off stuff they certainly didnt buy in California.

Racerbvd 07-05-2011 06:54 PM

We have had a burn ban here as well as a few fires, so not so much of tthe fun stuff, but the Town did have a good show over the river, it was paid for with sponsors & private donations, plus, Molly Hatchet performed (for free)
I could see & hear most of it from the house, but I was too busy transplanting Sago Palms to ride over..

As usual, I am thankful we made it through the Fourth without any serious injuries. Two small grass fires and singed fingers. It was bedlam.

Beaverton OR. sounded like a war zone... didn't see any... wife and I were doing our own indoor "fireworks"
