read please, the goodness of pelicans!!

OK, I recently posted on a thread about Death, I posted straight from the hip as the emotions of the moment let loose.

Someone on the thread sent me a wonderful PM. He knows who he is....This is my personal thank you sir.

Mike

more info, your leaving us hanging here

I bet it was "seahawk". Paul always know just what to say and he's a great guy. There are many others on the board who would do this, but I'm guessing it's Paul!

mikesride 09-05-2011 04:27 PM

My post was basically that death does scare me and that I am still searching for the coping skills to help me deal with it.

I just found it amazing that someone I have never met other than on line thru this forum would take the time to make sure I was OK.

This individual even went so far as to invite me to talk with him if I ever nead to speak with someone about it.

Car guys are good guys, I think all of us here agree with that.....but some of you guys take things past helping in the garage...I for one thank you for caring. I have seen other guys making great comforting comments to other members on this board and it just impresses me!!!

azasadny 09-05-2011 04:29 PM

The folks here are some of the best people I've ever "almost" met. I have met quite a few Pelicans in person and I've never been disappointed!

I remember the dilemma you yourself had when faced with leaving your church..and everyone, even the jokers seemed to gather around and support you...Thats amazing for an Internet forum. (love this place!)

lm6y 09-05-2011 06:45 PM

And the great thing is, whomever it was did it anonomously, so there was no other motive than just actually caring. This IS a great place.

I am scared of death too. I never talk about it.

The Heart & Soul of Pelican is supreme.

porsche4life 09-05-2011 10:41 PM

This place is great, and it does not surprise me in the least that someone would do something like that. I've met and talked with great people through pelican.

Dottore 09-05-2011 10:47 PM

I had a serious medical issue earlier this year, from which I am thankfully on the mend.

I thought twice about posting here about it. But in the end I did, and I got some truly warm and fuzzy and quite wonderful feedback from a whole bunch of people—for which I was extremely grateful.

It's easy to forget (particularly in PARF) that there some incredibly decent people underneath those often highly politicized exteriors.

Peace.

Vash and mikesride, you owe it to yourselves to read Dottore's thread: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/off-topic-discussions/627592-death.html

nostatic 09-05-2011 11:45 PM

without death, there would be no life.

azasadny 09-06-2011 03:19 AM

Yes, the kind folks here have helped me on numerous occasions. I will never be able to repay, but I'll try...

Hugh R 09-06-2011 04:24 AM

When I first started here, I was offering to buy some A/C parts in the "Used Parts for Sale" section. I couldn't understand why several people told me "I'll mail it to you for free to pass on the good will" I was thinking "Ugh?". I've helped some Pelicans, and a few have helped me. I've met dozens in my travels around the World, literally. Everyone has been a real pleasure to meet, chat, and drink and dine with, every single one.

Danimal16 09-06-2011 05:19 AM

I must seriously agree. Even in PARF, the longer I am around the ones that I initially disagreed with, the more I look forward to what their thoughts are. It starts to kind of grow on ya. Gear heads may deal in steel, but have marsh mellow hearts.

Hugh R 09-06-2011 05:38 AM

+1

I'm always up for POLITE, INTELLIGENT discussion, especially with those I disagree with. Just agreeing with everything someone else says who is of your same frame of mind can get boring and not very stimulating; it doesn't make you think very hard.

No kidding... I was looking around at rcomps, but was nowhere near ready to buy, and Dbyers sent me a used set. Wouldn't even let me pay postage....

4 freaking tires! I'm still using them too, greatly improved my autocross times!

Danimal16 09-06-2011 08:57 AM

I have had very similar experiences. I can tell you this, I wish I spent more time meeting the pelican's. I have not put out the effort, AND every one of them that I have met I have enjoyed their company!

bivenator 09-06-2011 09:44 AM

Just wait till your house burns down, then you will see the Pelicans in full flight. The support offered to me and my family during that difficult time was immeasurable. I had my wife and daughter read the thread and it brought tears to thier eyes. Pelican rocks and I count myself lucky to have found it.

DARISC 09-06-2011 10:11 AM

Nice kumbayah thread goin' on here on PPOT and that's AOK by me. Lottsa once people here.

My HUGE mistake was reading and responding to some of the politico/religio posts here before PARF was created. My even HUGER mistake was then continuing to read and respond to them on PARF.

I make it a point to generally avoid discussing politics and religion with people I know and absolutely won't discuss those topics with people I've never even met.

Stupidly, I violated my own rules and now, through no fault of anyone but myself, I have this reprehensible addiction to PARF, where rancor rules, attempts at intelligent discussion quickly turn into undiluted vitriol and I learn things about people I'd rather not know...and I reveal to people things about myself that would best be left unrevealed.

So my advice to anyone who hasn't been there is, don't go there. It's MUCH nicer here, and you'll avoid having your perception of the nice people here, who also post on PARF, tainted. SmileWavy

You will find my originating post in that very thread! That is how it all started for me here! Thanks guys!

Rikao4 09-06-2011 11:20 AM

he often goes against the flow here...
he shared a bit of himself..
including the price one may pay..
thankfully he slowed down..
to let me know..
you get few chances..
sometimes ..
one..

DARISC 09-06-2011 01:27 PM

Nicely written Rika...
and it was gratifying to do so.

I've had Porshe's, Corvette's, Jaguars, BMW's. I have to say that this board is the most friendly and helpful of them all. I've not had the chance to meet many on this board, but I could easily sit down and have a chat with any and all. I will say without a doubt, that the BMW website is full of 20 yr old's wishing they had the biggest, baddest, loudest car in the world, and would tell you that is every profnity known to man. This board is so much mor civil I cant compare. I guess I'm saying that there are all kinds of help here if you need it.

Guilty as well. ( now I try to just stay right out of PARF as pollitics turns me mouthy!)

I personally think he's a bit spin-dizzy from too much time spent whizzing around in whirly birds. :D

High aspirations!

I think it's a gift. No point aspiring to it.

You can't possibly learn to channel Charlie Rose, Mother Teresa and Chuck Norris all at the same time like he does. :)

Dottore 09-07-2011 12:12 PM

Bump.

So just as we're all about to agree that Paul is our very own Jim Jones, this thread dies.

What gives?

Dude, "Jim Jones"?

Uh... I think we can do better than that!

Benjamin Franklin?
