Yosemite: Tuol. Meadows to Donohue Pass

9-28-11

Tuolumne Meadows, up the Lyell Canyon, to Donohue Pass, the SE border of Yosemite. Mount Lyell is the highest peak in Yosemite and the pass is to the North a mile or two. 8500 feet at TM and 11,000 at the pass.

Looking up Lyell Canyon:

8500 feet at Tuolumne Meadows and 11,000 feet at the pass.

I saw a doe and her fawns and a single fork-horn.

Do you run it or hike it?

These are my favorite posts. No green ink.

I miss the West.

I "run" them, but the casual observer might have a different description. This trail was perfect for running for the first 8 miles but the next five to the top and then back down again were absolutely not runnable - very steep, rocky and covered in debris. I was very interested in not breaking an ankle and doing the Joe Simpson power crawl back to civilization. (Joe Simpson - Touching the Void)

It blows me away to run around in Yosemite in such a beautiful environment with virtually no people around. The solitude is fantastic.

Beautiful.

I wish I could get down to Yosemite now that the high tourist season is over.

What did you drive to get to the trailheads?

You need to come visit before you get too old and broke down

I'm trying to figure out a time and route to ride up there via Mammoth Lakes around the end of October. Tioga Pass is iffy that time of year, I hear.

Beautiful. Thank you for posting.

Beautiful photos, thanks. You've inspired me - when I get back from the East Coast, I'm going to jump on my Hypermotard and buzz up for some of that scenery.

just sayin'

I just got back from trout fishing in the eastern sierras near Bishop and it was awesome. Limited out every day on 14-16 inch rainbow trouts. It was my first time in the eastern sierras and it was beautiful.
