I served once, and had fun.

When sent back to deliberate, I was elected jury forman in about 90 seconds.
In less than an hour, everybody agreed with me. Guilty!

This was a simple DUI case- No blood or guts.

I think it would be interesting to sit in on a trial but I have no time for it now. Maybe in a few years! I have never been called as of yet.

HardDrive,
Thank you for your service.
I am sorry the case had that effect on you.
I would back whatever decision you made 100%

Curious about you jury DUTY system. Is anyone eligible? Is it a random selection of citizens? Seems like a diffuse and time consuming system.

In most places they use the drivers license as a jury pool. So anyone with a valid drivers license call be called. I have done Federal & county.

A buddy was called for jury duty for a murder trial. He runs a small business and there is no one to do his job if he is out. When they asked if he could be impartial he said "sure, I figure if they were arrested they are guilt so put them in prison." He was not chosen as a juror for some reason.

OK. Thanks, Glen!

It would seem not everyone is in favor of participating, for a lot of reasons.

I was in the courthouse yesterday, in the jury pool for a criminal trial (fleeing arrest and possession of cocaine). They settled on the jury without getting to me. No complaints!

Must be a Citizen.

Must not be convicted of a felony.

They usually use voter registration, driver's license and census information to fill the selection pools and then a computer randomly generates who gets picked to for jury duty.

We have a judge here at the county house that has a good retort for those that state said facts about arrest and guilt.

"Fine, there is a trial about business next door. There were no arrests. Shouldn't take more than a month or 2. Report back to the jury room."

Just bring a big hard cover copy of Atlas Shrugged to read while waiting for selection, and make sure to hold it so they can see the cover.

That's not always the case around these parts. May only be one trial on the docket.
