Well, my wife and I have been long time viewers, anxiously awaiting the next episode.

Last night we decided to hang it up and scratch this show off of our list.

Sure, I would like it to be more like the earlier seasons (my favourite thing was the cliff hangers like when Rick got stuck in the tank)...

...but even though the shows aren't as gripping now we would keep watching but we won't.

It has become a waste of time. We are hanging it up due to the limited air time of the show itself versus the percentage of commercial content.

I can skim through the previews and get as much out of it.
That is NOT because the previews give too much away.
It IS because the show seems to now be just a few scenes inserted between endless commercials.

Too bad.
We're out.

Same as any other show out there. Commercials last about 5 minutes. We get 43 minutes of actual showtime per hour. Same for just about every show.

This is why I stream it for free off the net the next day, watch with no commercials!

DVR is your friend. We record it then watch it later when our kids are in bed. Any bets on where they go next? Maybe the evacuation zone mentioned by the cop?

vash 12-02-2014 12:04 PM

i have two episodes remaining in my DVR. i like pausing it, and of course fast forwarding thru ALL the commercial except the Victoria's Secret ones..those i slow-mo.

They might've considered staying at that hospital. Dawn & her bunch were set up pretty good with a secure perimeter, comfortable quarters, electrical power, vehicles, a doctor (even though he was a bit un-hinged), medicine, supplies, and a vegetable garden on the roof. After the showdown, Rick could've offered the rest a deal, "We're in charge now...join us and we'll all work together to survive this thing, or get the Fk out". Unfortunately, that wouldn't have made for very interesting follow-up episodes.

Beth was a fool for attacking Dawn with the scissors. I understand that she was upset and all, but she could've gotten them all killed if the cops reacted to the stabbing by blasting away at Rick's group.

After being a big fan for the first 4 seasons, now it seems like this show is running out of gas. Abraham & his bunch are irrelevant now, Fr. Gabriel is useless & uninteresting, Rick's group is just gonna start wandering aimlessly again, and Zombie smashing just doesn't have the impact it once had. The only compelling question now is what Morgan's up to, and who carved those symbols that he's following.

onewhippedpuppy 12-02-2014 01:44 PM

I thought the symbols were being carved by Rick and Daryl to mark their path? Wasn't that discussed in a past episode?

I don't remember them ever talking about that, or seeing them doing the carving. Could be though...there was a reference to a 'trail left by Rick' on another site. I didn't know what that was about, but it makes more sense now.

Yup, gotta DVR it and skip the commercials.

OT tangent... I like watching the Big bang Theory, the geek humor makes me laugh. I missed a couple of episodes, so I downloaded them via Torrents. I was shocked to see that 30 minute episodes now only have 19:30 of content? A couple of years ago, it was about 22. I can't believe anyone would watch tv live. Except for sports, it's all DVR and I skip 98% of the commercials.

Back to Walking Dead, the season started off with a bang and was riveting, but I felt like the hospital drama was a waste of time. Didn't really see the point of it. Still can't wait until February for the season to restart.

I can't remember if it was on this board or another board where someone discussed the markings on trees being a sort of "hobo" code (depression era) as to which places were safe, where you could get a free meal and which places to stay away from. It was an interesting little tidbit from the past that I didn't know about.

I am ready for the next half of the season to be somewhere else. Meet new characters. Learn more about how everyone got infected. Something else. AND QUIT KILLING OFF ALL THE HOT WOMEN!!!

Hopefully Maggie isn't next. It's getting to be slim pickin's in Zombieland.

onlycafe 12-04-2014 11:01 AM

maybe they could introduce some new characters (cute girls).

vash 12-04-2014 11:26 AM

The kidnapped cop lady had potential. :)

Check this out... saw it in the IMDb message board for TWD:

The way I saw Beth's death seems to be different from everyone elses.

She walks up to Dawn and says something like, "So this is how things work", and then stabs her which forces her hand to shoot Beth accidentally, causing Dawn's death.

Some say Beth was overconfident in trying to kill Dawn and failing, but I don't see it that way at all... what I saw happen, was Beth sacrificing herself not just to save the kid, but to force their hand to shoot Dawn , the way Beth saw earlier, Dawn exploits every situation to make others do her killing, Beth uses the same tactic here on Dawn, but in a far more complex way that took her own death to achieve.

People calling it bad writing, I think just didn't get it at all. This was all chess. People are thinking in terms of checkers and missing a few levels.

Just a thought.

Season returns this Sunday Feb 8 at 9 p.m. with the talking dead at 11:15 p.m.

Any thoughts? Will Morgan find the group? Will they stay in Atlanta or move on?

onlycafe 02-05-2015 04:46 PM

very stoked... and afterward, "better call saul".
should be a stellar evening's viewing.
telephone will be unplugged!

AFC-911 02-05-2015 06:38 PM

I can't wait for TWD to start up again. I've run out of Shameless episodes to watch.

I edit some shows for some networks and the Total Run Time window is 19-24 minutes.

Bob Odenkirk is one of those funny guys that you know you have seen before but can't remember exactly where. SNL, Mr. Show, NewsRadio and Seinfeld to name a few. Should be good.

This is at least 50% of the reason we cut cable years ago.

I don't have cable because I watch TV all day long. lol.

But for hour long dramas. TRTs tend to be 43 minutes or so. It's not too bad. I'll just stream if I want to.
