A man needs some peace and quiet to think.
I found a little yesterday. Headed east over the mountains. Just wandered. Drank strong coffee and listened to good music. Didn't return a single call or e-mail. It was a good day.

Word up.

I can easily see how that would work wonders for me too. For most men probably.

Yes, it does. I find that I need times of silence. Real silence. This is why I go backpacking. Alone. For 2-3 days, minimum.
This quiet thing HardDrive mentions is very important. There is MUCH noise in today's urban lifestyles. Time must be set aside for quiet contemplation. Otherwise, perspective is lost. |
I was just thinking it was about time to take a cruise over Chinook Pass and lunching at Whistlin Jacks. Great scenery and road. Foods pretty good also.

One of the absolute best places is the area around Whistlin' Jacks. I once drove to Whistlin'Jacks in my old 944 Turbo, but this is a thread about solitude, not excessive velocities over mountain passes, so never mind... |
My wife is from India. I'm of Finnish ancestry. When we had our daughter, a friend dubbed her the 'indofin'.

I really think it is important to do what you did. I do it. I have the 6 cd changer and
more times than not, I just drive without any music and enjoy the landscape. The car does it for me. Serenity. |
Go placidly amid the noise and the haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence. |

Call me a purist... but when I want quiet time I walk down to the ocean.

Fly fishing. Just took it up and have been twice. I've found I don't think about work or stress the entire time. It's just you, the rod, the line, the river and the fish.
Good for what ails ya. |

In the late 1940s, Gandhi was at the forefront of the movement to liberate India from the British Raj. He was constantly bombarded with visitors, advisors, etc. So, he decided that one day each week, Tuesday IIRC, he would not speak.
It didn't take long for people to realize he needed a little down time and should be left alone on those days. |
