I'm with red on this, no safety slugs, super expanding crap...if I have to shoot, I'll worry about the legal ramifications after I ensure that my side of the story is the only one heard...
As for 410, I haven't seen a load yet that will make more than a scratch on a flak vest, much less real armor.. BUT, you've got to be comfortable with your weapon choice and even a .22 is better than nothing, especially if you can get off a few well-placed. |

Da Judge.........
I agree, the .410 is at best a compromise. However, it answers the issue of the weapon not being too long, and, it can be loaded with a couple rounds of .410 and then 3 more rounds of .45 Long Colt. In a CQC situation, that should settle the issue unless the perp is wearing body armor. The only round that I know of that will penetrate most body armor would be the 12 gauge flechette round. The flechette is a 1" long steel dart. There are about 20 of them in a typical 12 gauge load. This is the same flechette that used to be loaded into the 106mm recoilless rifle beehive round. Think modern day cannister! Of course, some of the big bore rounds like the 460 S&W or 500 S&W (big nasty heavy recoil stuff) would cause enough blunt force trauma to permanently put down a target even if the body armor stopped the round from penetrating. However, I don't even want to think about pulling the trigger on one of those rounds in a closed hallway without hearing protection. You might never get your hearing back!

If my perps are wearing body armour...they're FAR more pro than I and I must have been a really bad boy.
Maybe it's time to switch from my 1911 to my M1A with AP rounds. Opps sorry 'bout that neighbors 3 doors down!

20mm is the only way to go. Common self defense ammo does not have the stopping power or penetration needed to stop a human being. I know if any of you guys were shot with a 9mm it wouldn't even slow you down and you probably wouldn't even need a doctor because of how ineffective the round is.

A .410 at self defence type distances (3 meters or less) would be devastating and in a revolver where you can get lots of shots off. It would be a great piece of equipment. I used to use buckshot 00 loads in the .410 and in a handgun they could be quite good. |
