Satallite dish in the wrong yard

One of my neighbors had a DirecTV dish put in my back yard. There are two possible neighbors that could have done this, and I do not know either one.

What would you have done? Dish on a 5' post, in concrete, no cable, no receiver head on the dish and everything was still loose.

Knock on the doors.

Unplug it and see who complains.

GWN7 10-21-2011 07:16 PM

Prob who ever installed the dish made a mistake on the address. As noted knock on the doors and ask.

If its not in the way of anything I think 60 bucks a month would be about right, otherwise plant a tree in front of it.

Sounds like they stopped in the middle of the install. Might have figured it out or the homeowner told them.

Ask them if a mistake was made (knowing full well there was one).

Ahhh, just run a cable to your place, get a receiver from the thrift store (usually lots of 'em) and ask the neighbor for a spare Card :D

Call the dish provider and tell them to get their equipment off of your property. Simple as that.

Tell them you want to be one of their additional "rooms" for the extra $5 a month :)

You already have the dish.... just need a receiver/card.

DTV is much better then anything in Canada :)

Just call the sat company. If they want to give you a bunch of crap tell them you will rent them that spot for a few hundred a month.
Sounds like a simple mistake

Baz 10-22-2011 04:53 AM

i don't think you do anything....just wait and see what happens. The "damage" has already been done. If it was a mistake - surely someone will contact you and then you can move forward in whatever measures that seem appropriate.

Or you could call the provider and inquire - your call...:D

Well, I kind of sort of pulled it up. I am pretty sure the dish installer had figures out it was in the wrong yard and that's why he left it.

Call a lawyer. Someone will take your case. It's the American way.

E38Driver 10-22-2011 08:25 AM

Since you have the abandoned dish, sell it on Craig s list. I needed one for my RV and the dish company would not give me one but would sell me one. I looked on CL and found plenty for sale cheap.

This.
I've seen plainclothed Comcast installers going through others yards, climbing public utility poles, and even going up on third floor condo balconies when they weren't home.

If the company identifies themselves, send them a registered letter with a healthy "disposal fee" with 30 days to pay:D

Move dish so is is horizontal. Got yourself a free birdbath!

Take that junk down to the local cable office and put it in front of their front door. Make sure it blocks as much foot traffic as possible.
