"Have a Good Day" or "I Love You" or "Be Good" - what do you say to yours?
Growing up my Father would always tell me "Stay alert." That was pretty much the last thing he always would say before going to work where ever. I guess he didn't want me to walk into a wall or have an anvil fall on my head. My older Brother would always say "Be good" at the end over a phone call.
I was thinking this AM about what I say to our kiddos - seems like I always say the same thing to them, "I love you, be a hero". There is a long story behind the hero part. Our Son has a ritual with Mom every AM. When he is leaving the house they have the same volley of phrases... Mommy: "Love you" Son: "Love You Too" Mommy: "Love You More" Son: "Half" Again, the origins to this are long but odd but it is rather cute. He texts me at school when he gets in and always ends with "Luv U, B Safe". I think that if we all do not say these little phrases we will somehow have bad luck or worse. Superstitions I guess... What are some of the phrases you just have to say before getting off the phone or leaving a loved one for the day? |
I always tell my wife when she goes somewhere.... Love You, Be Careful.
Cause there's so many freakin idiotic drivers out there. |

Back when I was flying my wife made it a point to say "love you" just in case it was the last thing I ever heard her say... It made sense for me to start doing it back - I'm a lot more worried about things that happen here on the ground than I ever was about things going wrong in the air (and statistically I'm right!)
I think it's a nice sentiment in any case - people don't seem to tell people things like that enough when they should, then all of a sudden you might find your window of opportunity has closed for whatever reason. |
I do not let supersition have any part of my life.
I do show love on a continuious basis, so I do not worry about "last words" and the goofy guilt trips others suffer. |
When I leave for work I always give my wife a kiss good-bye and say "I love you". She response with a "I love you ... be safe." Sometimes she'll tell me "watch out for the bad guys." (one time I almost walked into a bank during a hold up.)
Before my son leaves for school I tell him "Drive safe and do your best in class." When I was traveling a lot, my wife would alway say, "I love you and call me when you land." you know, just to make sure the plane landed safely. |
Right after my 16th I was going out on a Friday night with my dads nearly new Tacoma. His words as I headed out the door? Don't wreck my truck boy.
|
I like to mix it up a bit.
I love you See you later Don't shoot anybody Peace out Don't let them make fun of you |
"you hang up first"

Oh, I get "Be safe" quite often now when I'm going out. It has several meanings.

Superstition and rituals are a very strong part of being human. I am not saying they are a good part or correct part but a strong part. All the more power to you if you can rise above them. |
When I was growing up my dad always said, "I love you. Remember who you are."
I never thought I was particularly special, but I guess my dad did. I tried my best to not disappoint him. |

To the kids: "DO NOT wreck the car and DO NOT get a ticket."
To the wife: "What's for dinner? What time? OK, later." |
To my son: Love you... Have a great day.
To my daughter: Love you... be safe. To my sister that lives with me: c-ya |
