Thanks for the good thoughts wrt my daughter. She was the one who first suggested putting a picture of the lizards on Pelican and was thrilled with the responses.

Baz, what are the lizards in your photo?

Lee, they would definately get along, those are some really cool lizards she is holding. I was thinking it was a type of bearded dragon.

Beardies are very cool, too. We took care of a friend's for about 6 months while they were on a cross country trip.

I was leaving a friends house a couple of months ago when he noticed this hanging out in the doorway to the spare bedroom (yes... the snake was inside his house!):

My daughter fell in love. After realeasing the 2' long Snonoran night snake (above) into the desert, she immediately started making plans to buy her next pet. This is Draco the Snako, a corn snake:

This one was just hanging out in our back yard:

clark's spiny lizard?

i kept one as a pet for awhile. it was very aggressive and would eat anything that moved.

Showing the reptile love tonite, I do like the corn snake and have an eye for one of those. We are currently keeping a garter snake that we found in the spring. We feed it live minnows that swim temporarily in the water dish. It is really cool watching it strike and eat.
Do you feed the corn snake live or dead mice?
There is a very knowledgable reptile store nearby and we stop in frequently so the guy there will sometimes give us a show by feeding some of the snakes and lizards. The first time he popped down this little pink hairless mouse, still breathing and twitching. I had my 4 y/o nephew and 7 y/o daughter with me and the wide eyed, somewhat horrified looks on both their faces when the snake was chomping on the mouse were memorable.

Excellent. She is cute and she can handle reptiles. Next stop starring in the next Jurassic Park movie.

Draco eats one small mouse each week. We buy them frozen and thaw them to room temperature before feeding. My daughter uses a set of the plastic 'training' chop sticks to feed him. He hits it as soon as it's in range.

He's a great pet. We got him from a breeder who sells on Craigslist. I think my daugher paid $20 - much less than the big pet stores.

Yeah... she's holding his mouth shut for a reason. :D

Neat! I remember catching snakes a lot as a kid. My mom hated it (especially when we brought them home) but it was fun and we learned a lot (unintentionally) about their habitats and what would make them agitated or relaxed, etc.

Great stories!
This thread reminds me of one of the posts on the Jokes thread:

Little girl goes into a pet store and asks, "Do you have any bunnies?"

Pet Store guy asks the little girl, "Do you want a little white bunny or a little brown bunny?"

She says, "I don't think my python gives a darn."

Those are Chameleons, bi. There's a bunch of different species....their eyes move around like little gun turrets, they change their skin colour to match their surroundings, and they eat crickets with that long tongue that moves as fast as a lightning strike...very interesting pets.....

When we put in our koi pond in the back yard it attracted a lot of wildlife. We have a lizard (actually it is a skink) that the juveniles have a electric blue tail. It looks like a neon light.

We also have some tiny little snakes that are not much bigger than a worm. In fact they eat worms. The worm snake is a Carphophis Amoenus

It is amazing that they can survive a winter.

I really couldn't see any reason to click on this thread but I did. How funny! That picture of your daughter with the three lizards is priceless!

hah! i went to petco to get a feeder mouse for my pet gopher snake. the gal started talking about how cute this one and that one were. i said, "it doesn't matter. my snake is going to eat it." she got all self righteous and said, "we don't sell feeders here." i was a bit flabbergasted, as they clearly sell snakes; what do they think those snakes EAT?! i laughed as i walked out the door to find some feeder mice.

true story.

some of those skinks have a very powerful hallucinogen in their tail, IIRC. that is a cool specimen, there.
