There you have it. Have fun Speedy!

That MB straight six is a great motor, wonder why it is a salvage, looks very not bad. I like the wood on the interior, is it faux wood?
|
MB has never put fake wood in a car, AFAIK.
|
Looks like the real wood in our M3....

Yeah, that's a really similar heap to mine. Has it been punched hard? Mine doesn't seem to have been. The picture of the short block looks like it was exposed to the elements, (and moisture), for quite awhile. Mine is still running, (albeit w/ some really old fuel in it), so it should look fine when I remove the head. Yep, looking again at your pic and that thing was definitely left exposed to the PNW elements w/ no cyl head on it for some time. Bummer. Rusty cylinder walls are not good. :( |
I took some better pics of the interior yesterday, it's really not bad at all.

I have a soft spot for all things AMG. Congrats a saving a great car. Sadly these 3.2 and 3.6L engines are hard on head gaskets, but lots of tips and threads on this repair.
Looking forward to updates. Yasin |

Great project, Denis. And thanks for the pics of the R5 and Z/28 (one of my favorites). :)

The flag mirrors look just wrong with that body. :( |
I'll try to get another picture of that car when I go back there, it's some kind of bodykit thing.

sub'd. Nice score Denis. Looking forward to seeing it's resurrection.

Finally got off my ass
And did the head gasket job on this car over the last 2 days. It was a piece of cake except for the cleaning out the oil from the cooling system, which I haven't really done yet. The good news is that this HG failure is so common that MB makes a special cleaner for getting the oil out and i'm picking some up tomorrow. :)
The head was more or less perfect, un-warped surface and no cracks. I just cleaned it and the block up really well and put a new HG on it. This was at the advice of the most respected MB machinist in town, FWIW. I had him look the head over, (he's done hundreds of MB heads), the surface was perfect and it's never been shaved. The CCs looked fantastic, very little carbon and plugs show a great burn. Lucked-out so far. Here are some pics: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1331876961.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1331876986.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1331877015.jpg |
Congrats Denis! Was lining up the cams straighforward? Is the oil pump driven off the crank?
Yasin |
Yes and yes. There is a variocam sprocket on the intake cam that needs to be set correctly, (fully retarded), but otherwise nothing special.

[QUOTE=RANDY P;6380898]It's a hammered car
Oh no. Seeing that particular car gives me a headache. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1321733324.jpg Oh and mine: {/QUOTE] That looks expensive! |
Slight difference between the way that short block looks and mine. Just sayin'...
