Are any Toys made in America?

I needed to buy a toy for a Toys for Tots Run this weekend. I went to Target with the intent of buying a toy that was not made in China, hopefully made in the USA, or at least North America. No Freakin Way! I went down aisle after aisle only to find all the toys were made in China. I finally found one made in Vietnam and bought it.

This has me thinking......

Maybe instead of OWS occupying Wall Street they should refocus on something that would be effective.

Where are our workers supposed to earn money to buy stuff other workers are making if those other workers are overseas and being exploited? And where are these "other workers" spending their money? Sooner or later this has to burst.

The large corporations have moved offshore for economic reasons. What would happen if Ford and GM made all of their cars in China and shipped them over here?

I know there once was a time the Japanese had us beat in quality. And I know unions made pricing challenging. But we need to work this out or what we take for granted will experience a paradigm shift.

If we made some attempt to buy Northern American made products maybe "THEY" would listen.

Your thoughts and input are welcome.

Most of Little Tykes is made in Ohio. You can find their stuff in most stores that carry toys.

Does Mattel sub all it's stuff out to China?

Maybe go to a Mexican supermarket? (but don't go for the free samples)

Don't be surprised if their stuff is made in China too. China made tourist souvenirs are found in Mexican stores in Mexico.

kinda ironic. you went to TARGET to find a toy bargain..(no denying that TARGET is a bargain superstore) then cant find a non chinese toy. the only reason the prices are so competitive is because they buy cheap stuff from china.

i would say the first step to finding an american made store would be to seek out a moms/pops indie toy store. if you can..they are like unicorns these days. makes me sad that TARGET and WALMARTS are kicking the little stores butts.

i love mom/pop stores. especially hardware stores. thanks for the toys for tots reminder..i need to make a run.

One of the best toys I had as a kid was called earth, and you find it all over, USA, China, etc. It could even be used as a fashion statement in addition to playing with it.

This is pretty cool... although it reinforces the age-old, erroneous idea many kids have that the way to drive a car is to saw on the wheel like a madman.

Yup. Even a lot of the stuff hawked at the TJ border is made in China. Check the label on that sombrero or ceramic burro...

Drueke used to make wooden toys and games in my hometown. Looks like they moved upstate to Ludington, MI. Available here...

I ranted about this years ago, and people said I was crazy; they said it was a good thing, because moving those 'crappy' jobs offshore actually created more jobs here, and freed up Americans for 'better' jobs. No, seriously, this was part of the rationale for off-shoring.
