New 2012 Jeep SRT8 at the 'Ring...............
Saw this thinly disguised 1 hour comercial on Speed channel yesterday. Focus was on the new SRT8 line-up. Since I own the previous Gen Jeep SRT8 - I was interested in the overall performance. They took the Jeept to the 'Ring with a professional (female) driver and did a lap in under 9 mins. I think that is a very good time for an SUV brick.
These things weigh in at 5K lbs and the new version makes 470HP at the flywheel. A lot of new features as well where the driver can adjust sport/track and street modes remotely via 'selector' that controls engine AND chassis stiifness + anti-roll/sway. I LOVE mine and after driving a few other manufacturers offerings, nothing comes close. Really nothing at all from the domestics. My $.02 ![]()

That's cool I guess, but I just don't get it. If you want performance and space, buy a CTS-V wagon. If you need ground clearance and off-road capability buy a real Jeep. Performance SUVs just seem to be an answer to a question that nobody asked.

Its nice being able to haul/drive on rugged terrain and have a high performance oriented drivetrain.

For me it is the answer. I like Jeep Grand Cherokees, have had several over the years and think the combination of SUV/all wheel drive/420HP/Brembos and rack and pinion steering - rock. It does everything a normal SUV does but accelerates and corners like a sports car. The new GC - SRT8 looks to be even better

Not knocking your choice, to each his own when it comes to vehicles. Anything with that much HP is good for a laugh.

I agree. I prefer a car that does one thing well, rather than two things mediocre.

Does Porsche sell more Cayenne Turbos, or 911 Turbos? Jeep sells more Grand Cherokee SRT8s than Lotus sells cars, period. Cadillac will sell fewer CTS-V wagons with 6 speeds than BMW will sell X5 Twin Turbos with M packages.....in BROWN.

Finally, we agree. I looked at and thought of Jeep Wrangler before buying the Mustang. I did an honest appraisal of my driving habits, settled on a car. Still, if I got back into hunting or fishing, then a Jeep...

I thought the old SRT-8s were quicker? I'm not sure where I heard that.
Ever tangle with a Trailblazer SS? |

Of course, Jeep may or may not sell more if they didn't keep production to 1500 regardless of demand.

I have not been head-to head with the SS Trailblazer, but have worked on and test driven a few. They run well but no comparsion to the Jeep. Actually considered an option for purchase but the overall quality and performance just were not in the same ball park..

Trailblazer will always see the rear bumper of a SRT8 GC.
The previous gen SRT8 GC> the new one..by far....the design of the new one has not one me over, although I like the 6.4L.
