It helps if you speak French. I worked 2 summer holidays there - once on a farm and the next year as a guide in a Chateau. French beer not good, French wine great of course. French women? Well I was 16 then and....:)

Sorry, but I wouldn't be ordering any Beer in France,, too many Wines to sample...

And, one of life's greatest pleasures is having a cute French waitress place a beautifully broiled plaice on your table saying, "Voila Monsieur!" in that little sing-song voice they commonly use.

Driving a rented Renault at full tilt through the French landscape, occasionally stopping at some little village for a meal that will convince you there is a God and that he's French...I can think of few finer ways to waste time.

I agree with the pro-French comments above; however, many French foods can be improved -- you add some Spanish, Caribbean, and African to them, some red pepper (from So. America), mix and wait 300 years. This also works with French women...

The French were right on Iraq. So much for those freedom fries.

Many people resent French cultural arrogance. Having spent a fair amount of time in France, I believe their cultural arrogance is richly deserved. Beautiful people, beautiful country. Amazing food. Ahhhh... France.

Wiki: "While two-piece bathing suits had been worn on the beach before, the modern bikini was invented by French engineer Louis Réard in 1946. He named it after Bikini Atoll in the Pacific, the site of the Operation Crossroads nuclear weapon tests in July that year."

Of course they have the topless beaches as well;)

The English invented arrogance.

The French perfected it...
