"Young Guns"

This movie has been out since 1988 and I still enjoy watching it each and every time.

It's airing right now on AMC.

Can't say the same here. I would of just read the post and moved on but I hated this movie. Kind of like "The Breakfast Club" in the wild west.

Watch Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid with James Coburn, Kris Kristoferson, and Bob Dylan in it. You will realize the only good parts of Young Guns were taken from this movie.

I can here his prayer " Please God, don't let them play that lame 80'S western meant for teenagers on AMC."!

Baz 01-11-2012 09:36 PM

No worries.....guess I'm still a teenager at heart. :)

I've watched it a couple of times and enjoyed it for what it is, but in the back of my mind I still had trouble with the fact that they are glorifying murderers and thieves and that there are some people who see it that aren't capable of realizing the difference between good guys and bad guys.

The characters in that movie were evil. Yet some people who are seriously messed up will see them as heros or role models or someone to be admired. That's screwed up.

I'm not saying they shouldn't make movies like that, it's just that we need more john Wayne type movies where the good guy is still the good guy.
Maybe that way the next generation might stand a chance.

Now Red Dawn, that's a movie worth watching!

Sam, there were two movies, and I thought they portrayed Billy as a loose cannon wack job type. It could only end badly, and as in real life, there were serious consequences in the end.

Unfortunately, you have to see both movies to understand how everything leads up to that end.

With you Baz, loved it, watched it last night, and have seen it so many times over the years. Emilio was great in that role! What ever happened to him?

I saw young guns and young guns II, where a really old billy was telling his life story.
All his accomplices were killed IIRC but somehow he escaped to live to old age.

Yeah I really liked Red Dawn...excellent cast and interesting "cold war" type plot to the movie. "Wolverines!" ;)

I like "The Duke" movies too - always "good guy vs. bad guy" - but this movie (and it's sequel Y.G. II) has the same exact theme....good vs. evil.

In Young Guns...it's the local government in cahoots with a local land baron who represents the evil....a continuing theme very familiar in today's world.

Violence...you bet. But always good vs. evil violence. The best kind. :)

The movie also has value in it's historical basis. Based on a real person (Billy the Kid) in our country's pioneering & "wild west" era.

I think Emilio is great in the lead role - the rest of the regulators are great as well. I also like the background music - especially in Y. G. II.

Here ya go Fred......
Emilio Estevez - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

He's still around but prefers to stay out of the limelight. He's an avid gardener too...like me! ;)

Perhaps the movie goers discovered he can't act? Just a thought. Did someone mention "Red Dawn"? When I first saw that movie, I thought it was a documentary. So realistic. I'm surpised "RoadHouse" hasn't been mentioned.

Eh--the movies are ok. However, the Tuesday night PBS "American experience"(if I am remembering the name of the show correctly) about Billy the Kid was the best thing I have seen regarding the real story.

Interesting facts from the show:
Tunstell was only 23 when gunned down(with his horse)

Murphy/Nolan went bankrupt

Billy did make a deal with Lew Wallace for testifying, and was double-crossed.

GH85Carrera 01-12-2012 10:09 AM

Wow, only 23. I have shoes that are older than that.
