I took myself a blue canoe
And I floated like a leaf Dazzling, dancing half enchanted In my Merlin sleep Crazy was the feeling Restless were my eyes Insane they took the paddles My arms they paralysed chorus So where to now St. Peter If it's true I'm in your hands I may not be a Christian But I've done all one man can I understand I'm on the road Where all that was is gone So where to now St. Peter Show me which road I'm on Which road I'm on It took a sweet young foreign gun This lazy life is short Something for nothing always ending With a bad report Dirty was the daybreak Sudden was the change In such a silent place as this Beyond the rifle range [repeat chorus] I took myself a blue canoe

Back to WILCO after a year or so. I keep coming back to Nels Cline. Really like him. I was kind of distressed to hear "Impossible Germany" on elevators, but they don't seem to play the good parts - the last half.

Thanks Black. That's the exact version I used to listen to while running. In training I'd listen to it all the time, but in a race I'd get through the first 20 miles on adrenaline and then start to sag. I'd pop on the headsets and play my "energy" set, which started with this version of Locomotive Breath. It really did lift me up and help me push on.
God I miss being in my 50s....

Fred - I really enjoy that one. I stayed in Alice's Restaurant in about 1971. It wasn't a restaurant then, it was an apartment. Alice had done well and moved to a new building on the edge of town. I never went there, but I guess it was OK. I stayed in the apartment with a friend who was with the Berkshire Theater Festival for a couple of weeks. I had more than a few drinks with Bill Obanhein (officer Obie) at the bar in Woodstock. He was quite a drinker and liked being a celebrity. I can't remember the name of the place and I tried to google it but didn't come up with something that sounded right. I remember it had "tavern" in the name.
