Hey guys check this out!
As many of you know I live with a damaged spinal cord manifesting externally as a crippled right arm.
Well I have been accepted into a clinical trial at the Kessler Foundation. The goal of the study is to investigate whether or not an exoskeleton type device for the arm can stimulate the growth of new or strengthen the function of any intact neural pathways. The first step was to do mapping of my brain. I was plugged into mapping software using this cap and it recorded activity as I tried to move my hand, fingers , elbow and shoulder. ![]() The second step was to externally stimulate any "hot spots" in my brain using a type of targeted magnetic pulse. That was relatively unpleasant BUT they identified a viable neural pathway. Every time they shot a pulse into a specific spot my arm jumped. So, now I go into a standard PT program in order to get my arm and hand into a lesser state of atrophy and spasticity. Who knows what will happen but any gain in function is HUGE. Science is cool.

Dang Tom, I'm surprised your neurons and synapses didn't back flow and frazzle the machine!
Hoping and praying this helps not only you but future patients. Take care and looking good Brother!

Reminds me of something...
A man barely alive. Gentlemen, we can rebuild him. We have the technology. We have the capability to make the world's first bionic man. Flatbutt will be that man. Better than he was before. Better... stronger... faster. You will need to also learn how to make that sound when you use the arm "do do do do" sort of thing. |

Holy cow! Hope there's some gain for all with spinal/nerve problems...especially for you. (edit) I'll confess to the desire for some gain of function myself.

Excellent news! Now, where's that thread:"What's Making You Smile"?
Weren't we told "If you keep doing that, you'll go blind!" Apparently it just leads to loss of use.

That is a cool application of science. So a magnetic pulse can affect the brain and the body.
Will a compass now point to you as the north pole? I hope it helps, even some relief would be a big step.
