There is one that is regularly at Addison airport, just north of Dallas, for maintenance. It flew by our office last week. Unfortunately I was inside the building, but the sound of the 4 radials was awesome. Beautiful plane.

Crazy that you can now accomplish their missions with a dozen cruise missiles.

Two comments:

Are there any B-29's in flying condition today?

And did anybody else drool when that line of P-52's fired up?

Tom - One flying. Named "FiFi"

Paul - Many thanks. Downloaded the MP4 to watch tonight. I recently finished reading Curtis LeMay's book "Superfortress". Very interesting stuff.

"Fertile Myrtle" flew out of Oakland back in the '70s and early '80s. It was a B-29 used by the Navy in the '50s to launch X-planes. Boy it would roar low over my house in the east bay hills and it was always a breathtaking sight. It's now in pieces in various places and owned by Kermit Weeks. The loss of the "Kee Bird" during the attempted recovery in Greenland in the mid-90s still makes me mad. One other B-29 named "Doc" is in Kansas and has been under restoration for many years.

Thanks and enjoyed the download. Rare bird today as mentioned above, only one is flying. Many years ago at Oshkosh, it was great seeing and hearing that gorgeous beast. I'll have to dig out my photo's.

"Doc", as mentioned, is under rebuild and will hopefully fly again one day. I got a great look inside the CAF's B-29 "FIFI" about a year ago and the crew wasn't too thrilled, it seemed, about the "Doc" project. They liked the fact that they can claim their plane as "world's only flying" B-29.

I feel the more of them that are airworthy and flying, the better.

I am sure they aren't thrilled too that they may be competing for the same spare parts as well, unless they fab everything themselves.

Very good friend of mine is one of the pilots of that airplane. If anyone ever gets to an event where its on display, let me know. Might get you a guided tour...

great video thanks for sharing............

Now I'd REALLY like to know why the History Channel on TV doesn't broadcast interesting HISTORY related items like this, instead of the crap TV they DO broadcast?

Heck the other night the History channel had Clint Eastwood "The Outlaw Josey Wales" on.........WTF has that got to do with History? Just like half their infomercials or reality tv shows.......crap crap crap.

thanks for the vintage plane film footage.

Yeah, the History Channel really sucks now. Pawn shops? Hoarders? I miss the "Hitler Channel," as one comedian called it.
