10 Belgian Malinois dogs (8 yrs. old) being abandoned in Afghanistan unless can get c

This was forwarded to me and I don't directly know the people involved but knowing how some of you guys feel about dogs thought you would want to see this.
Ed

In a conversation with a friend of mine today, Chandi Duke Heffner, she told me that Dan Hayter, premier trainer for IED dogs in Afghanistan, has some 10 Belgiam Malinois dogs who the USG has told him to abandon in Afghanistan. These are hero dogs who have saved the lives of many US soldiers and
sailors. Chandi is willing to pay their way to the States rather than have
them simply abandoned there. The dogs look similar to German Shepherds, have
great dispositions and cost some $200K to originally buy and train. Chandi
will be sending me pictures and accounts of their individual histories and
if anyone is interested I will forward the data. They are about 8 yrs old
and it would be shameless for the USG to simply abandon them. I saw one of
these retired hero dogs some 6 years ago that KPS Gill (retired chief of
India's police) had gotten from Dan Hayter-she was a beautiful and very
loving dog-a perfect family dog. Would any of you be interested in
providing a home for one of these wonderful dogs? Or know a good person who
might be interested?

I am VERY skeptical!

I have a Belgian (~11yrs old) and we have been looking for another one for a bit. A dog that will also be good with our other animals. It is not an easy combination and most Belgians do not do well with other small animals. Of course, when you get one with that herding instinct they are GREAT!!!

I was a handler of military dogs for years...the last time I heard of a DoD animal being left behind was in Vietnam! Sad story as the military considered them equipment back then, they still do however adoption is an option now.

This story seems to be about contractor dog teams, like others I hope this is not a true story.
