It was right under my nose all the time, I told U all about the Chinese Super Market here in town...well it was just a little to left of the where the loose leaf teas are kept..I wondered what was in those little boxes and there it was. PU ERH Cake tea and the best part is that it is cheap 3.5 oz cake for $1.95. This stuff ages like a fine wine does...

Looks cool but I do not trust Chinese things too much and I never buy Chinese food products (unless a restaurant uses it and I do not know). I might be out of touch but so many Chinese folks I know won't touch Chinese food imports that it makes me think...

Cool. I have some small Pu Erh cakes. Single use? How does a white guy like me differentiate the good stuff from the not so good? Pu Erh isn't my favorite typically.

What is the advantage of the cakes vs loose?

If one is buying from a Chinese Supermarket, one would think that the store buyers would be loath to put anything on their shelves that wasn't Kosher. How is that for a mixed metaphor?

Pu Erh is a FERMENTED/Composted Tea that grows more mellow with age...the Tea is formed into cakes when it is still wet, and then stored to dry out and age. I think the tea I bought is still fairly young, and could improve with age. I will go back and buy a bunch more especially at $1.95 a cake. .

This stuff is really concentrated, it only took a few seconds to make that Mug even darker than in the picture (I added a bit of water). The small amount that is loose in the picture can be used 3 or 4 times at LEAST... Pu Erh Tea is supposed to have fairly substantial health benefits such as lowering cholesterol levels as it cuts fat ingested with a meal. I would suggest Googling and reading up. After I partake of a mug I usually fall asleep

I think that one would learn about what is good and what is not by tasting as many different varieties and ages as possible?

Since I do not keep track of exactly what is on the shelf at that Chinese Market it could be that the last several times I was in there that the spot where the Pu Erh is located was empty?

Anyway I have gone from smoking Cigars to drinking Chinese Tea...could this be the beginning of the next new fad? "Hey man I just scored some Bai Mundan White that really has a nice flavor and aroma..."

I think drinking good tea is much better for you than cigars! Congrats on the find!

Tabs, you could be like me and enjoy both the tea AND the cigars. Middle path, you know.
