Hey Ian, I've heard from a very reliable source (me :)) that Canada is doing away with Mapleleafs too...can I call dibs on a roll of them suckers?
|
what's the copper value on a roll of pennies?

Keith: Sure. $3000 per coin. ;) But I only have 5 in stock so time is of the essence! Ian |
Makes a lot of sense. I wish we'd do the same. I could even see punting the nickel.
|
Makes my pockets lighter but it is instant cost of living increase because the cost of everything will be rounded up to the next 5 cent increment. Will it happen in the US?
Just a question of time. |

The rounding will not be done on single items but on the total bill of sale. If the price ends in a one, two, six, or seven it gets rounded down to 0 or 5; and rounded up if it ends in three, four, eight or nine. Businesses will not need to adjust their cash registers." Source CBC I like the 'expects' part . . . Ian |
Credit and debit transactions will still be to the penny, no rounding. I never use cash anyway.
|
Hey! I see a U.S. Nickel in that birds nest!.. It also may be a collectors' item soon?....

I get a 1% transaction fee when I travel internationally for business on my company credit card. $55 dinner, = $0.55 fee. How do you handle a 9.75% sales tax on an item that costs $9.99? They charge you a tax of $0.98 , and pocket the difference of about $0.026. I noticed once in Vegas at a buffet, that one customer paid a penny more and the next paid a penny less, the tax was the factor.

Sorry, all stocked up with old silver pesos.

I use pennies as 1/16in spacers. They cost less than actually buying the things.
|
About time...
Just return from Australia, they stop using them in the 60's. They round off the price. Off course in Canada, we'll get screwed as they will round up... |
I predict that businesses will start pricing items that are bought one at a time (like a pack of gum...) so that with tax it will come out on the 8
"Oh gee, sorry, I'll have to charge you two cents more" Also, I can see some stores trying to calculate tax on each item individually (in spite of the law) because most folks won't see it or not be bold enough to say anything. It sounds like no big deal until you put it into a large volume scale. |
