Can I used a s.driver instead of a key to turn ignition on-on M.Bike?

My Son received a motorbike for nothing.

I would like to know if I can use a tool or flathead to turn the ignition to get the fires burning without the key. Yes I will destroy the tumblers but for now so what.
I don't want to call a L.smith right now. If we are successful I will call a smitty.
Can it be done?

Can you get to the wires behind the switch? less damage if you are able to hot wire it to get it running.

Yes. The technique is to use a number 4 or 6 Craftsman slotted screwdriver. I can't remember which. Look at one of each and see which looks like it would work best. You insert it into the keyhole and whap it with a hammer until you have it completely in. Then you force rotate the screwdriver until it breaks the lock and connects the starter with the turn of the screwdriver. Unless the bike has some sort of an ignition interlock that works with a chip in the original key it will work. If the bike is older or not expensive it won't have one. This technique used to work with most cars until they started chipping the keys. That's how I learned about it. But it should work just fine on a motorcycle.

Can you get a key from a dealer with the VIN#?

I would like to try it in an archaic way.

I put the charger plus on the terminal of the starter and negative on the block but just got a bit of spark and ozone.
The hazards work wonderfully but of course until you can turn the ignition all you have is a little light show- which btw- My good Son and I felt like Dr.Frankenstein when the hazards worked.
I just would like to continue the excitement with my Boy to start reviving her.

Remove the electrical connector from the bottom of the ignition switch and trace back the leads. Don't damage the tumblers. They may be difficult to find.

Why do you want to destroy the lock? It won't be free to replace/fix the damage.

No key? Hmm. Title?

See if you can source a replacement key switch from the internet. You'll need one at some point anyway...

It's not a big deal to have a key made for a lock. An ignition switch is easy to remove from a bike, so I'd suggest taking it off and taking it to a locksmith. I had a key made for a file cabinet lock last week, which cost $11 and took less than 10 minutes.

If you are going to need to replace a broken switch later, why not just take it apart unbroken now? Save the expense and hassle of sourcing a new.
