I say the VW emblem is way too big and becomes ugly!
This is a bit of a trivial post but I do love the German cars.
This has bothered me before any gray beard hair was sprung on my don't look at me face-you'll fall in love. I do not understand why V.W continues to make their emblem so big..and ugly!? It is time for a remake. It would help with the front end and in your face insignia ; which is uglier magnified. Yes Mercedes doe's it and it bothers me in cheeze land as well, but they can get away with more because expensive cars equate to ahem, exotic category or being'special'. The Chevy emblem needs a change as well. It's like the biggest plastic zit on their automobiles. I wish they let go of that one as well! It's ugly. |
Been drinking again?
Seriously, the companies spend BILLIONS of dollars building a brand recognition, they want that logo up front and prominent. You think either company that has been using a logo for 60+ years is going to stop? Doubtful.... And I think they are both fine...... |
Continues?
Wasn't the microbus front emblem the size of a soccer ball? |

The logo has only gotten smaller over the years. |
slap a Grateful Dead sticker over it
|
I always thought the VW emblem had an unsettling resemblance to the swastika. I still find it a little creepy.

In the 60s, I had two older brothers who had served in Europe and started driving VWs upon their return(Type 2s and 3s). Seeing as I'm on my 6th VW in about 30 years, you could say the badge has an appeal to me.
When I look at the badge, I see a dress shirt collar. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1334311084.jpg Each to their own. Best Les |
I know guys with VW tattoo's.
|
I learned in my marketing class that the VW emblem design is the result of a contest.
|
I'd say that the Ram truck is the worst offender these days.
http://www.examiner.com/images/blog/...ailgate_EX.jpg The badge is enormous, not to mention... http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_ENK9LDwYuX...odgeUterus.jpg |
^^^ that's a cheapening of the old rams they used to put on the hood. Which were way cooler...'
If you can't dodge it, ram it. ;) |
The thing I wonder about is the proliferation of "unbadged" cars. I see lots of cars these days with no badge whatsoever. And......no scars on the paint. It's as if cars can be ordered badge-less. Either that or a body/paint shop is removing them and repairing the scar.
|
You can order then without, but most are easy to delete with a piece of dental floss and some adhesive remover.
|
Without the badge I honestly couldn't tell a kia from a honda from a toyota. They are all just use up appliances (including my 2011 jetta). The german cars can still be identified by the cheapness to sportiness ratio.

VW has "cult" followings, and the "cult followers" are proud of the logo, and want it displayed quite prominently.
|
I'm with jrboulder on this one , most new cars are so generic that its hard to tell them apart with out the badges.
Cheers Richard |
A salesman friend of mine ordered a new 2011 Hyundai Equus and he ordered it with no emblems. It is a decent car for the money. He has had a couple of people ask him if it is a Bently. :D
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1334331862.jpg It is his company car and he drives a lot of miles. |
|
somebody Photochop a Ram truck symbol to make it morph with the VW logo...
