Just last weekend, some friends happened to be near Decorah and checked it out. They said its a tourist attraction but a peacefull setting. New park benches and watch area. Somehow he was able to set-up a camera and tripod and took some pics.

crustychief 05-24-2012 06:42 AM

It looks like they are trying to learn to fly this morning with the wind.

Buckterrier 05-25-2012 11:45 AM

It is hilarious watching them practice their 'flying'. Looks like they are itching to get out of there, (except at meal time!)

lowyder993s 05-25-2012 12:21 PM

On the Catalina Island cam RIGHT NOW they are banding the eaglets!

They are napping right now....how sweet! :)

intakexhaust 05-29-2012 12:09 PM

Comical- Good fishin' as mom brings the hunt home. One chick gobbles the whole thing and moments later brings it back up. Next chick quickly grabs and claims it proudly. Starts nibbling but then stands over it. Too slow so mom decides afterall to grab it and scarf it down for herself.

Buckterrier 07-04-2012 06:29 AM

Sad news.... One of the eaglets, D12, was found dead under an electrical pole apparently electrocuted. They have since modified the tops of that & other poles around the area.
I guess this is the 1st eaglet they know of that has been lost.

Targa Me 07-04-2012 06:38 AM

I heard about D12. That is truly sad news. Poor guy.

intakexhaust 07-04-2012 03:46 PM

Sad to here that. Same situation I discovered this past Spring while on a country back road. In the distance I could see some odd shape near the top of a pole. Once I got closer realized what happened, noticed the hawk electrocuted and stuck tangled on pole. I stopped to look the scene over and then in the weeds by my feet was another young hawk downed. Took some pics and made me wonder how often this happens.

Buckterrier 07-06-2012 02:09 AM

Rip D12

That link does't really work for me. I get silly ads, a few sec of the nest and then ads start over.????

Yeah the link seems to have changed since the eaglets have started fledging, (like all that avian lingo? ;) ). After a bunch of ads & older footage I do see live video.

WolfeMacleod 07-06-2012 04:25 PM

Just watched a mouse scooting across the empty nest.. to get NAILED by low flying eagles.

Coool

Edit...

Seems they're on replay now....

According to the website the Decorah nest is now empty. The Eagles have moved!

There are some other nest cams listed on that page....
