Mo' Pussy, Mo' Problems

As you may know from my previous threads, we have several outside cats which we've "adopted" - we got them fixed and current on their shots, feed them a couple times a day, and leave them to their own devices from there.

I noticed that one of them had something funky on her mouth; I had the wife grab and hold her and I took a pic; sorry for the poor quality, but this squirmy little sucker was not a willing subject.

What is going on here? What would one do about it? I'm reluctant to spend money on semi-feral cats. It doesn't seem to be slowing her down much at all; she's still eating and drinking as normal.

Take her to your vet - it can't be that much $ - I can't tell anything from the pic - looks like a piece of food but if not your vet could figure out what to do.

Plenty of cat people here to donate for the cause if need be...

Talked to my vet brother who looked at pic...that is just a wad of nasty compacted hair or possibbly an old Qtip cotton wedged in between its teeth.... Pull it out with tweezers with a little tug or scrape with your fingernail...imagine a wad of popcorn hulls stuck between your tooth and gums. Should come right out. Needs its teeth cleaned. Also looks like it has gingivitis. Kind of an older cat likely. May be a a rotten or broken tooth undeneath but unlikely if its not in distress.

Like Dueller said "looks like a Q-tip"
Great pic though.
Your last name must be Takahashi to complain about the resolution and clarity.

Thanks.

I'm hoping DrDogFace will chime in, but I might try the tweezer trick this afternoon.

Does not look like a tumor to me, which is what I'd worry about in a cat's mouth.. Like most, I think it's some foreign material stuck between the teeth... If you could take that pic you could have some one tease that thing out... give it a try...

Let us know what happens...

Good questions, but it does not have the right color to be tissue...at least looks that way to me... More like some foreign material, cotton, paper, chewing gum ? The gum line around/under it will be sore for a bit and I'll bet the breath will be funky if it's been there long.

I once removed a pork chop bone from the roof of the mouth of a large dog. It had wedged sideways up on the roof of the mouth between the left and right sides. Stench on that dog would gag a maggot...

Last night we caught her and did the surgery. The little booger came out fairly easily, and it was gratifying to watch her sit and lick her chops for a full 5 minutes afterwards. I didn't analyze the thingy too much afterwards; the was some hair wound around the outside, and it had a hole in the middle where it was stuck over her tooth, but I couldn't tell what was in the middle.

Thanks again for the advice!
