Best place to search 356 convertibles?

One of my bosses at work has a customer who is coming to the states next week for a visit. The gentleman asked my boss if he had a clue about where to search in the states for preferably a "1964" 356 convertible. Anyone have any suggestions on best places to search?

I would like to help my boss out if possible with a few good leads.

Happy hunting. Prices across the 356 spectrum have been very interesting lately.

Indeed. You won't get much change from 100k euro for a nice 356 in Europe these days. And I'm not talking about speedsters, or GS cars or anything rare.

Don't forget the classifieds in the back of Panorama and on their website (PCA) I believe there are classifieds. Also - each PCA region maintains their own website and newsletter with classifieds. A lot of beating the bushes but since you asked.....

Those open cars are not cheap!!!

Tim,

Should the interested party be impartial to fiberglass replicas, I know where there is an absolutely exquisite Intermeccanica speedster six cylinder - with all 911 suspension, brakes, steering and drivetrain. The drivetrain is a fuel injected (motronic) 3.2 with the best 915 I've ever driven (wevo upgrades). Yeah, I got to drive it, which perhaps indicates the owner lacks judgement - LOL!

It's not cheap - it was an over six figure car to buy/have built new. But it is absolutely fabulous in every way.

I have not met or spoken to this person yet, but he is coming from Germany and I would be doing right by my new bosses if I can provide some help. Thanks for the help folks.

(seems odd that a German is car shopping for a German car in the States)

The owner of Focal in France bought 2 356s - a coupe & cab - from the US last year. Far cheaper than anything in Europe.

There are a whole bunch of dealers in Costa Mesa and nearby environs that deal in 356s and other old iron. Just tell him to use google.

You didn't mention where the visitor was going to be in the states. But, if he happens to be on the East Coast, perhaps a visit to Sloan Cars would give him an idea of some of the more expensive ones available. (no experience or affiliation with them)

Not at all. They rust faster there.

BTW, Wilhoit's wife is German. They might get along well.

At Willhoit's he's going to pay $200k for a restoration no matter which model it is. That's something to keep in mind.

And yeah, these cars took a stroll down the periodic table decades ago in Germany. All Germans buy their collectible cars here.

Might want to check with John before quoting his prices.

I would call Rod Emory. When I was there recently I saw 10 - 20 356's in process. I don't expect that he has any to sell (although he might) but he will know who does. You should be able to find them under Parts Obsolete. McMinnville, OR.
