Looks like fun Hugh!

New Suburbans and Chevy trucks with gas motors are super nice but when you're talking about 8 liter gas engines in HD trucks for a towing and just driving rig vs. diesel you really lost me. Maybe if you just can't afford the initial outlay for the diesel but you can afford $1k a month in fuel(??) or ??

For me it's not about affording the initial outlay, but justifying it. A truck, to me, is a tool. If a $10K gas truck will do the job well, why use a $25K diesel truck? |
I understand all of your arguments but disagree with the numbers. HD gas trucks with 8 liter engines do not get 20% worse gas mileage than a comparable diesel in a 4x4. They get half, empty.
And I'm a cheap bastard who would buy a Ford 7.3 PU for $10k w/ scrapes instead of the '06 Duramax that I really want for double, (or more). All diesel PUs are grossly over-priced compared to their gas counterparts if you ignore resale value, which you seem to be doing. This is truly a case of YMMV, as they say around here. ;) |
Sticking to the 01 Chevy vs Ford thing can we all at least agree that the extendable towing mirrors on the Ford are the shiznit. And that the Chevy ones suck.
See that is worth the difference right there Case Closed. |

But I loved my 2007 Ford Super Duty tow mirrors! :D I love my 2007 (classic, same as 06) GMC tow mirrors too, they're very similar |
I love a Ford v. Chevy discussion. I believe my 7.3 is still on the Hot List!
|
Hey now Eric, you can't be modifyig the 2001 Chevy, thats not fair!!!! :)
But yes the newer GM tow mirrors styled after the Ford ones are good too. The flip up Dodge ones are a clever design, but not as good as the Chevy and Ford ones. |
