If I were to display that in our house I'd have to clean it up really well and find a bell jar to put over it so it wouldn't collect dust.

You might get an vintage prism and set it out in the yard and aim the theodolite at it through a window..

My dad was a surveryor and he used to joke that his partner had all the trig tables memorized. This back in the 1950's. That was tough work back then, especially doing large tracts of land.

That's a nice instrument. I've have a very cool tripod for one or a Dumpy level but never got the instrument. I'd be perfectly happy with a level because I've used them and know how. The trig involved with a transit would kill me.

Decent levels go for more money that I want to spend on another dust collector.

I love this sort of stuff. I'd have a house full of it if I had a ton of space, someone to dust it all, and enough disposable income to acquire it.

I have a Starrett Transit scope somewhere in my garage.

It came from a deceased estate and was gifted to me by the daughter of the departed.

Is that a K&E? Used one of those for a while 35 years ago. Those are nice transites.

No old stuff, but one of my Project Managers had a bunch of cool old devices in his office on display that he picked up at yard sales and flea markets.

Only memories and my old grade checking stick still remain here. No clue where my old eye level tool is. An old salty inspector showed me how a piece of colored grade checker ribbon tied over the level bubble softened the sun while viewing.
