Madmen.....

Did any of you watch Madmen last night? I thought it was quite shocking. How about you?

wdfifteen 05-21-2012 06:26 PM

Missed it. Don't post a spoiler please.

gassy 05-21-2012 06:29 PM

Yeah it's getting good. Only 3 left this season. I find myself biting my nails during that show. I don't mind.

If you missed the episode, clicking on a thread about the show is not a particularly bright move.

Loved Don in this ep.

OMG that E-type coupe is pure sex!

herr_oberst 05-21-2012 07:16 PM

Jag guys - is that a '66 or '67? Are all the Jags in the showroom '66 or '67? This season, the series is set in '66, but it's Christmas, so they could be either; I was just kinda wondering how much they sweat the details.....

BE911SC 05-21-2012 07:20 PM

Salesman should have been a respectful Brit, not a smarmy American guy.

crustychief 05-21-2012 07:25 PM

I thought it was a great episode. +1 on Don being "the man". I can't believe he actually drove that thing at night. He must not have had the headlight switch in the "flicker" or "smoke" positions.

I thought the taillights were beneath the rear bumper on 66s and above on 67s, but googling for images I see both.

BE911SC 05-21-2012 08:38 PM

Hey, at least they got several nice period Jags for the showroom scene. Wouldn't bother me if they were a year or two off, it's the sight of all those Jags that makes the scene.

asphaltgambler 05-22-2012 06:06 AM

I don't know about the jag ...............but the redhead is nothing but pure sex appeal......good God

Zeke 05-22-2012 06:45 AM

I can't figure that show out. Several weeks ago Don killed a woman and shoved her body under his bed. Not word since. I think she'd be stinkin' the place up by now.

Or am I watching reruns of the season?

gprsh924 05-22-2012 07:07 AM

He did that in a dream.

Hmmm. Joannie just doesn't do it for me. Too much "there" there, I guess....

What was the point? Was the whole tryst thing a dream? I didn't see last season so I don't know who the woman was or where she came from.

I watched 2-3 shows in the first season and really didn't care for the show. Seems like they kicked it up a notch for this season. Right or wrong?

As I've mentioned many times, my dad was Don Draper. Right down to the shoes. However, after the divorce, my mom didn't make out as well as Betty did.

motion 05-22-2012 07:54 AM

Don is conflicted by his past. You'd need to watch from the beginning to understand. Betty is not doing so well these days.

Zeke 05-22-2012 08:02 AM

I get the problems Betty has. But she lives in the society that she is accustomed to. My mom ended up being a waitress out at the public golf course after being a member of a private club for most of my childhood life. She did eventually marry an oil man and lived fairly well. She got back to the golf course as a member.

Betty seems to have her demons, for sure.

I guess the show was too much of a soap for me, but I can attest that the business scenes are spot on if not a little over the top on the drinking. But, I say "little."

skunked 05-22-2012 08:05 AM

This season has been lacking the entertainment of past seasons. Maybe because Don isn't sleeping around.

That's entertainment? Is there no intellectual content to be considered? The portrayal of the times and the culture is good. The conflict of the new generation with the LSD and weed sneaked right up to guys like Don (and my dad) a lot closer than people knew. Some got it, but most didn't. The 40 something stagnant account exec was face to face with the 30 something who was moving forward.
