SUV Cartoon

Here's a link to a cartoon that SUV haters (like me) might find amusing...

aren't you guys getting tired of hating SUV's? they really are great vehicles.

Laughing my ass off, especially the excavation is taking place in Denver and I live in Colorado! Sad part is, it is only WAY too true. The worship of the B.A.V (Big Ass Vehicle), I only wish I could stop it!

Do people still own and drive these things, even as the bottom is beginning to fall out on this market? Do they understand leveraging your lifestyle to a bank for $500.00 a month is not going to increase the size of your **** or make a woman more of a man? Isn't your average Hummer driver aware that playing boy soldier is very insulting to (most) Americans? And finally, behind the dark "shame" glass, can anyone see anything in there?

It is so true: In an SUV, you are a passenger no matter where you sit.

I love my Suburban. I use it to tow my boat and to take groups on skiing and camping trips. I love my Porsches too. Thank goodness this is a free country and we can drive what we want to.

Planter91C2 05-09-2002 01:11 PM

i agree baum, these other guys just don't get it. i'm sure they all probably voted for Al Gore...

The fact that it was in Denver made me smile as well. Although I do need to agree with some of you. Living in Colorado, I do love the versitility of my work vehicle, a 2001 Chevy Blazer.

Now those Cadillac Escalade things that is another story...

You are in the 1%. The other 99% never tow anything and never go anywhere other than the mall and the grocery store. And never take "groups" anywhere (unless you count Mom and 2 kids as a "group" requiring a 6,000 lb transport). That is what is objectively ridiculous.

I personally have not gotten tired of ridiculing that, and hearing/seeing others do the same. I may get tired of it someday, but that day has not yet arrived.

Actually, its far from that. I'd like to drive an Indy Car on the street, but I am not free to do so.

My Nissan Frontier works for all of my needs. 2WD and 27 mpg.

I find it interesting, but a bit sad, that anyone who owns a Porsche 911 would categorically "hate" another vehicle. I've seen three different movies (most recently "The Kid" with Bruce Willis) in the past month where rich, selfish, stuck up snobs drove Porsche 911s. Obviously the people who wrote/produced these movies were trying to follow a stereotype that is generally accepted by society in the development of these characters.

And then there's this prize often circulated on the internet:

An elephant and a mouse are walking together through the jungle when the elephant falls into a very large hole. The hole is so large that try as he might, Jumbo is unable to climb out. So the mouse says "Hang on, I'll get something to drag you out with" and disappears. A little while later the mouse returns driving a Porsche and with a rope tied to the bumper, he drags the elephant out of the hole. The two friends continue their stroll through the jungle when all of a sudden, the mouse falls into a hole. The elephant immediately stands over the hole and squatting over it, lowers his penis so the mouse can grab it and get lifted out.

The moral of this story is that if your **** is long enough, you dont need a Porsche.

Too bad that someone would think less of you as a person because of your choice of vehicle and/or hobby, isn't it?

I guess I'm twiced damned!

An attractive woman once told me that it is her understading that, generally speaking, the guys with the little PeePees drive huge pickup trucks and Corvettes. Porsches, according to her, are generally driven by guys with substantial love musculature. She should know. And I have no evidence that she is incorrect.

Does anyone else see the irony in a bunch of Porsche owners characterizing SUV owners as status-seekers or driving something they really don't need? The class-envy and jealousy implied is sickening. Like it or not, the United States has become an extremely wealthy nation. $500/month for a vehicle really isn't a big deal these days when it is not unusual to make $500/ day in salary! If you can afford it, why not buy something extraordinary? So you only use the 4wd 2 times a year when you go skiiing? So you only use the 3rd row of seats once a year? Hell, these things run cleaner than a 1974 Pinto and are a hundred times safer. BTW, I don't own an SUV. -- Curt

LOL! Damn, you got me! I just get so jealous of all those "high class" people in their Excursions and Expeditions.

But I know that if I just keep working hard, I can maybe someday afford a giant SUV, and finally join that upper eschelon of society. Then everyone will envy ME! Hoooray!

mwbaum 05-09-2002 05:01 PM

i just think general statements like "I hate all SUVs" are ridiculous. Sure there are housewives on cellphones driving empty SUVs to get groceries...and that is a waste of space and energy. But many SUV owners use them for what they were intended. Just as with Porsches there are many who buy them for status (the old gold chain crowd) and dont have a clue about the history or the performance of our babies. This tends to be the new Porsche owner...thats why you dont see many 996 owners hanging out on Pelican...MANY are jerks worse than the SUV status seekers you talk about. Go to a PCA meeting sometime and watch the reaction of many a 996 owner to your SC. I drove up to the dealer last year in my 356 to have a look at the new Turbo on display, and was looked at with amused condecending glances. It would be pretty easy to say "all Porsche owners are jerks/snobs" but we know that aint so.

Jim T 05-09-2002 05:20 PM

Well, I don't think anyone has or would say that "all SUVs" are bad. Of course they serve a real purpose for a relatively small number of people.

Anyways, I am going to ask my boss for a raise. If I can get it, I will put down my deposit for this. That'll really show the neighbors!

I've got an idea to solve this problem. Let's create a department in the federal government who's purpose will be to assign vehicles to US citizens. Want a Porsche? Want an SUV? Want a Yugo (well, actually the Yugo would qualify for an automatic exemption to the rules)? Just fill out this 15-page form and mail it to Washington. Within 6 months, we will have your application analyzed by a career bureaucrat who will determine your needs and assign you a vehicle. ;) -- Curt

I agree! Not too many days ago, Cindy & I were eating in a coffee shop near I-5. Huge Suburban, black, parked out front...California plates, darkened windows, chrome wheels. You have to understand how leftist Oregon is, politically...and how some living here hate people the "PC" set call "Californicates". Walking in, I told Cindy "that guy is in trouble up here." As we were eating, the occupants of the SUV left the hash house. Driver, a lady in her late 50's. Passengers? All five of them? Ladies in their late 70's, early 80's. Obvious to me they were on their way to something the elderly ladies considered important. And, thought I...how better to use a Suburban? Guys, it's not the SUV concept I (insert descriptive phrase describing a female dog) about...it's that Porsche is bothering to make a low passenger load, high performance SUV. I mean...leave high performance to cars, leave people hauling & towing to SUV's. Hope this explains why I hate the idea of Porsche building a "high performance SUV". To me, the whole concept stinks!
