Getting a title with only a bill of sale in Michigan
Hi,
I have casually started to look for an air cooled 911 again. I enjoy the 996 but there is nothing like an aircooled 911......or a 930. Anyway, I have been running across porsche that come with a bill of sale only. Has anyone in Michigan gone through the process of applying for a title having only received a bill of sale especially an out of state vehicle. Was it a difficult process? What exactly needs to be done? Thanks

I think the real question is, why is there no title?

Yup. That sounds ultra dangerous. You're asking for trouble.

I bought my Porsche in Michigan from a guy in Michigan, but the title was still in Illinois (in my hands but registered there). I had no problems, but like I said I had a title.
There are other cars. Just walk away.

Some states don't issue titles for older vehicles. If Michigan DOES issue titles to all motor vehicles, then take the owner to the DMV and get one.

don't cry when you wave that bill..
at the rightful owner as he drives away.. you could have PO apply for 'lost title'... doubt he will/would.. cause that opens up a can of worms he doesn't want you to see.. Rika |

Different situation, the buyer and seller appear to be in the same state.

Thanks Art. I still have pictures saved of your 911 from a drive a few years ago. What a beauty! Hope you are feeling better.

It's easy to find out the status of the title. Cost: $6.55. That is, if was ever titled in Michigan. You could also just ask a cop.
BTW - "run Forrest run" = vagina repellant.

I bought a 1985 vehicle with a 'bill of sale' from Vermont a few years ago. Vermont doesn't issue titles for vehicles over 15 years old. Titled it in Michigan with no problem whatsoever. Received a standard title just like any other car.
For another car, I'm currently waiting for a title on a car that was sold in Michigan with no title in 1998 (long story). They are issuing the new title on a Bill of Sale from the transaction in 1998.
