Guy a few blocks over has one that is a Rott/Lab mix that is his twin, guess I could do DNA testing on both of them, but that seems a bit silly for rescue dogs.

Most likely, he's an American Staffordshire Terrier, or a mix with one.

Lil old guy is really slowing down. Decided to take him on a mini road trip to the Lake Tahoe area while scouting a new kayaking launch points. He perked right up once we hit the lake area. Rolled down the window so he could soak up the cooler air and smells. Yes, that is a belted doggie booster car seat with a secured harness he wears in the car. We “used” to be cool..........[emoji849]

He’s sure living the life, did you let him go for a dip in the water?

Cassie is getting up there in age. She is 13/14.

Fairly recent pics of one of the best dogs I have had the pleasure of sharing this planet with.

AKA pit bull with a cute smile and raised properly. I've met a lot of normal ones and gotten the face kissies plenty. (But some are not. That is another discussion.)

It's the other breed I'm worried about:
Those square ears are a giveaway. He's probably mixed with the dreaded Beagle. Howling at the moon for days. Eating socks and baskets of laundry. Stubborn and demanding. "No you don't understand, dog doesn't feel like doing that now so you can go buzz off take a long walk off a short pier and let me walk myself. Ok?" Yank the shoulder out of ball-n-socket randomly. Squirrel or whatever. Doesn't matter. Random patterns. "We go there now. Now we stop completely. Now we run fast now." Opposite of instructions. Mr Opposite Mary Mary quite contrary. It's always his way or the highway.

Thanks,

Nope, not today. We weren't set up for water play. We were seeing what areas we would be allowed with the "Poppy Pass". It's a yearly access pass to a list of state parks. D.L. Bliss was a nice spot, however it was one of the most unfriendly areas for dogs. Not allowed on trails, beach, picnic areas, etc. only paved roadways, which is always good on hot sunny days....[emhttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...ee6cea02c6.jpgoji849]

I want to get him into the cockpit of the yak but only if he has his doggie preserver on. I kinda wonder if water therapy would ease his stiffness at times.

Her ears are fantastic! We know the feeling..... We always wonder what Henry’s previous human was like. We rescued him four years ago and he has never been your typical Mini Schnauzer. He doesn’t bark, very laid back and mellow. He doesn’t get excited and shows no emotion for a dog. I have always said he is a cat in a dog suit.

He peters out quickly on his AM walk and recently, doesn’t give us his nub wag when we get home. Just turns in circles[emoji53] seems confused at times.

Got to have the vest on!

My paralyzed buddy (RIP) went to water therapy twice a week, likely did nothing for his condition, but he loved the vets and it was better than sitting home alone all day. You might check around and see about trying a few sessions.

I would like to thank the contributors here.

I love dropping in every month or so and catching up on the thread.

It is great how "dog" can mean so many different things.

Good suggestion on water therapy, will do and thanks. This past week we hit a local lake with the yaks, it was good to see that every pup had his or her DFD on. Then there was that one moron standing with his dog on hot asphalt parking lot wondering out-loud why his dog was hopping around picking its feet up. Well he was only wondering the point until the Mrs yelled at him to get the dog off the hot surface and to remove his head from his posterior... [emoji16]She does make me proud!!!!

The rest of his party looked at him like he was just “schooled”

I remember seeing your posts on your buddy and his rather cool shark vest. I am truly sorry that he passed. That’s the worst part of years of happiness with our four legged friends. The feeling of having your heart dig out with a rusty spoon is darn near unbearable.

That water is so cold, it may not be as therapeutic.

Near Incline Village, right where Lakeshore Dr hits 28, there is a trailhead near the old Ponderosa set that is okay for dogs, or it was last time I took a dog up there.

Poor guy would freeze his tookus off if he dipped into Tahoe. I wasn’t talking about Lake Tahoe as a therapy, yeah a wee bit to cold for the little guy. Heated water for therapy is the only way he could stand it.

Although the last time we took him to the river, we did have to stop him from going out too far. He did seem to like standing in the cool water but that was a couple years ago.

That’s good intel on the dog friendly beach area. We will need to take him there so he can walk around. We were kinda surprised how restrictive the park areas were regarding dogs.

That one was not a beach deal, it is up the hill from the water. Down near Emerald Bay there is a trailhead across 28 from where the Emerald Bay parking lot is. Easy hike with some streams feeding into the Lake, close to DL Bliss. Do they allow dogs at Sly Park or Ice House?

Looks like most state parks are dogs on leash

Cool water may feel good on those arthritic joints.
