Came to this thread thinking about tomorrow morning. We will be putting down our oldest boy Dale.
13 year old English Choc Lab. Retired therapy dog for a group home for boys, cancer survivor.
He certainly did his duty as an awesome dog and friend. We will miss him dearly.

Vinny,

I'm sorry to hear about your chocolate, Dale.
I've had 3 English Labs, one of each color.
My chocolate Woody could have been Dale's twin.
Woody will greet him Tommorow and show him the ropes.

I think it was Mark Twain that said, " if dogs don't go to heaven, then I want to go where they go when I die."

Only advice I can offer is stay with your buddy throughout the procedure.
He deserves that respect.

Again, my sincere condolences.

Matt

As hard as that may be it is the only thing to do. Sorry for having to go through that but remember all the good times.

My heart goes out to you. I have done it twice in my life and it never gets any easier.
Labs are great buddies.
Cheers, Guy.

Yo Vinny.....very sorry to hear this sad news but a very nice tribute to Dale with your wonderful photos. Please be comforted in knowing Dale was given much care and love in his time here....and gave back even more as they all do.

I posted this in the first post of the thread.....and it still applies.

Hugs to your faithful companion and please come back to the thread when you can.

Respectfully - Baz and the girls

My prayers to you and Dale, you are going through one of the toughest events in life, know there are others out there that have been through the same and KNOW how it feels so you aren't alone. Love the English Labs, have a 3 years Chocolate too.

Thank you :)

Dale left us peacefully on his favorite spot on the couch @ 11am ET Saturday with our two other dogs there to get closure.
Want to say thank you for all the kind words & thoughts.

Please allow a few more pics of my best boy.
Dale loved car rides and being dirty. He would sit right on a driveway mess of oil soaked kitty litter. He was always nearby when I was swinging a wrench. I think he was just waiting for one of these big vessels to fire up so he could jump inside.

Hey Vinny - I want to thank you for sharing those wonderful photos of your beloved companion Dale....as well as the details of his passing....which i really appreciated on many levels.

There's not much one can say to ease your pain but please know we are thinking of you and yours and that we really respect the bond you had with your beautiful boy.

Dogs are the best - you have to hug and love them every moment possible - and stay with them their entire journey - just as they have stayed by your side for their entire life. That's all one can do.

Please continue to post pics of Dale and your other fur kids as well to whatever extent you would like - they are always welcome and would make the thread a better place, for sure.

Take care my friend and all the best,
Baz and the girls

jhynesrockmtn 01-28-2014 07:10 AM

Vinny, I know I don't know you but I'm so sorry for your loss. My chocolate will 15 in two weeks and I lost his brother who looked so similar to your Dale 3 years ago. I still break down if I see a photo of Kona and your pics brought tears flowing. Best. Jerry

Vin-barrett 01-28-2014 07:50 AM

Thanks again, this is a great thread.
It's so strange without that 90 pound Choco Dog shuffling around the house...
Dale leaves behind Marley who is a pitt-mix and little Chloe a Border Collie/Shepherd.

So sorry for your loss Vinny. I just saw the posts. Dale is playing in the sun and warmth with all the other fine doggies, (including two of my own), now.
