Lot of good names mentioned -
As a young kid it was Errol Flynn, no one did better swashbuckler films like him. I liked Steve McQueen and Robert Mitchum: mens men. Great actors: DiNero, Newman, Hackman, Eastwood, Nicholson. As far as woman actors, I'm a sucker for a pretty face - no favs.

Perhaps longevity is not a good way of discerning nowadays.
Many, many just awful movies by the past greats that have fallen , should just do commercials......................................a gain.

Wow, there are some really bad actors named in this thread. A few good ones, too.

Funny that when the question is my favorite actor, a significant list immediately comes to mind, but I would have to really scratch for actresses...
Here's a few in no particular order: Robert Downey JR - became a fan of his after watching 'Less Than Zero'. Jeremy Irons - deliciously wicked as a bad guy. Al Pacino - Devils Advocate, Scent of a Woman Tommy Lee Jones in pretty much anything but especially No Country for Old Men Russell Crow - I've probably watched Gladiator ten times (husband's favorite) Denzel Washington - Safe House and Training Day are two favorites Liam Neeson - Everything (except The Phantom Menace - good heavens...) Kevin Spacey - Pay It Forward angela

There are so many good ones... But at the risk of loosing my man card Brad Pitt surprises me every time.
And again Tom Cruise seems to know his craft. (if you ignore some of his poorer choices) But the absolute best would for me have to be Denzel Washington. He just takes over the screen.

I always liked Robert Duvall, but there are a lot to choose from. Hoffman, Newman, Nicholson are at the top of my list.
I have trouble coming up with a favorite actress though. Meryl Streep, Sigourney Weaver, Gwyneth Paltrow would be in the running.
