Time to buy an AR-15?

My cousin has one and I'm totally hooked.

I plan to buy one in the next 3 years. Should I get it now or just wait?

I probably won't shoot it that much in the next 3 years but I would rather have one in current form than some watered down POS.

Why wait? Buy a SIG 516 at Wal-Mart today.

Rock River is nice too.

Ruger 556

Colt makes a nice one if you can find a nice, used one, do it!

Do it now rather than later.

Wow thanks for the suggestions, guys!

I was thinking about a RRA LAR-15 A2 as I've heard they have the best AR-15's and for some reason I like the fixed stock.

I guess I passed over SIG because it's a bit different than the other more traditional AR-15's. The more I read about them the more I want one. I'm definitely going to check it out in depth.

As for the Colts, did their quality go down recently or something? Used ones online seem to all be well over $1000 but Cheaper Than Dirt has a new Colt with a 16" barrel for $990.

The Ruger seems to be another one I have overlooked. As mentioned in the Ruger thread their in-house production of almost everything is something I really appreciate.

Thanks guys!

You guys keep that up and this thread might get expensive for me!

At least buy a couple of lowers now.

Rock River is good, as are several others.

ODDJOB UNO 09-02-2012 04:18 PM

if ya just gotta have a poodle popper...........

buy the sig or buy the HK-416 hands down you will thank me. this is one place "cheap" should not be used for obvious reasons.

cdnn has the sigs on sale right now. and they are "cute as a bugs ear".

What do you guys know about the Core15? It's manufactured in Ocala FL just up the road from me and I've always wanted to stop in and take a tour.

+1

Walhell has a very solid price on these and it is an incredible weapon. A Sig P238 was my first sit, but after experiencing the wuality , it surely won't be my last.

Buy now along with a bunch of ammo...... If the wrong outcome happens in a couple months, the prices/availability for both will likely go nuts again.

I have yet to hear of any name brand factory built AR's having any issues in performance. I like my Rock River Arms flat top w/ 16" barrel, but you will likely be happy with any of the name brands.

Only thing wrong with buying an AR-15 now is that well.. you are buying an AR-15 :)

I'd avoid anything by hesse/vulcan/blackthorne.

If you only buy one, I'd avoid plastic/carbon fiber receivers and stuff. And I wouldn't put a bunch of tacticrap on it either. And budget an extra $200 or so for a 22 conversion kit and some extra mags for it. And start buying ammo now...

Knights SR15, Noveske SS barreled AR's are da bom...

Rick Lee 09-02-2012 06:25 PM

I want to buy some more stripped lowers just for future projects. But they're sort of hard to find locally without having to deal with an FFL.

URY914 09-02-2012 06:27 PM

Core15?

theFONZ 09-02-2012 08:47 PM

You can't go wrong with any of the major brands (DPMS, Bushmaster, Ruger, Colt, Sig, etc.). There is no need to spend more than 1K on a nice rifle, unless you are looking for accuracy. Get a flat-top rifle then an optic (I prefer EOTechs) and you have all you need. Don't fall for the tacticool doodads, they aren't necessary and are mostly worthless/counterproductive.

rattlsnak 09-02-2012 09:48 PM

There are many different models of ARs, but it's pretty universal that Colts are the best. Are they that much better than a RRA? Well, is a Honda as good as a Porsche? Depends on who you ask I suppose. They both will get you to the local strip club.
