I start my new job on July 9th!
Well, after Beth (my wife) lost her job on Friday, it was especially nice to be notified that Ford is hiring me as a full-time salaried employee, starting on July 9th.
I have 11 1/2 years at Ford and took a salaried voluntary buyout back in 2/2007, then worked as a computer consultant, on contract at various client sites. Needless to say, I'm earning far less as a consultant (contractor) than I earned at Ford and I really hate being a contractor. My company treats me well, but it's just not for me. I started the interview process way back in March, and it took this long because it's a new process for Ford to rehire someone who took a buyout. One of the terms of the buyout was that I couldn't be rehired, so they had to get that approved and it took many many months. I'm very happy to be going back to Ford as I enjoy the work, the people are great and the office is 8 miles from our home. I'll be making substantially more $ which helps us a lot, especially since Beth is now looking for a full-time teaching position. The timing for this could not have been better and we are very thankful for this opportunity. After being miserable for 5 years, it will be nice to look forward to going to work and getting cool projects from design to implementation. I'm in IT security and I'll be working with many of the people I used to work with and that's a very good thing!

Art, let me be the first (oops third) to congratulate you. Good for you. Couldn't be happier to hear you got everything squared away. Good luck and I hope you retire from Ford in 20 years, enjoying a happy and prosperous retirement.

Nice, I was a consultant for many years (decades) and looking back I really hated it. Congrats.

Well your camping this weekend will be even better since you are now celebrating instead of escaping.
Congratulations.

Art, this is fantastic news, especially with your wife's situation. I'm surprised you were making less as a contractor, but it's nice to have security (maybe a little pun intended). I like the security field, I'm a Cisco guy and have worked with Firewalls, VPN and IDS/IPS, but I'm not hardcore. I don't know that I can get into the mind of the hackers enough.
Congrats!!
