Anyone stayed there (not the cottages) since renovation several years ago?

Yep, just got married there in April. Very nice rooms and the ocean front rooms were worth the upgrade. The tower rooms are more modern now but not over the top. We couldn't have been happier staying there.

We stayed one night :( on a day trip from the big island. Very nice, good food and beautiful sunset.

Not an answer for you, but when in Maui we always stay at Puamana. Some of the beachfront condo's are literally 20 feet from the water. Downtown Lahaina is maybe a mile away. Most condo's have bicycles...if not, we rent them for the duration in town.
