How is WWE successful?

Come on! Do people believe this stuff? Pro wrestling is in-watchable to me. Any fans here? Can someone explain it to me?

biosurfer1 09-23-2012 08:23 PM

The Kardashians are famous and successful. It should come as no shock the WWE is

stomachmonkey 09-23-2012 08:25 PM

Simple, it's a soap opera.

jhynesrockmtn 09-23-2012 08:43 PM

There are a lot of stupid and gullible people in this country, scary really.

dan88911 09-23-2012 08:49 PM

What! would are you saying man? Its not real?

Seriously, I took my sons to one their shows years ago front row seats it was a hoot a lot laughs.

Nostril Cheese 09-23-2012 08:54 PM

Its entertainment.

Loved it when I was little kid, watching The Flying Dutchman, Jimmy Snuka, & the Kangaroos. I even watched it overseas on AFN because nothing else was on. I never viewed it as anything but theater.

I always expect the audience in the arena to be all 9 year old boys, maybe accompanied by mom and dad. Shocking to me, I see that the majority are grown up people paying to see this. To me it is also completely un-watchable. I do however think that the big days of wrestling are over - no?

I was into it when I was a kid, even went to see Kerry von Erich vs. the Great Kabuki. I loved it until about age 13. Man, Greg the Hammer Valentine, Sgt. Slaughter, Mean Gene, Rowdy Roddy Piper. It was great. Then I totally lost interest. I guess it's a generational thing. But these days it seems there are more adults than kids in the audience and that's kind of scary, as are the prices they command on pay per view.

I have friends who post about it on FB and stuff and it blows my mind. I thought it was stupid and fake but entertaining when I was 12 or so, but I don't get how you can get totally into it as an adult. I guess people are into plenty of stuff they know is fake, but wrestling is so... well... oiled up muscular men in speedos groping one another, ya know?

We all know it's fake but those guys must be fit to do what they do.

When I was about 8 my dad took me and my brother to the wrestling. Being so young I though it was real and I'll never forget it.
It was a big cage match with multiple bouts going on at the same time. Of course my brother and I started wrestling as soon as we got home that night.
We eventually built a ring on a dirt patch in the back yard... Wooden poles for the corners with ropes and everything. The local kids would come around and we'd have matches.
No one got hurt but there were some great match ups. Some good memories for sure.
Imagine about a dozen 8 year old's wearing "speedos" standing around in the dirt waiting for a turn in the ring.

Do I watch wrestling now? I can't stand it.

(Search "marisa tomei the wrestler" ;))

Its more than entertainment. Its mindless entertainment.

Putting on my Flame Suit.

They watch it for the same reason that people watch NFL, NHL, NBA, NASCAR, F1, The Voice, Americas got talent, etc....

We are addicted to the magic moving screen. Its a babysitter. An obese producing, babysitting addition. (Admit it, how many of you have DVD players in the SUV to keep Jr occupied?)

Eight More Days Till Halloween - YouTube

I am happy to admit I still miss MEU (Mind Expansion University) channel. (I think it became The Discovery channel, but its not the same. Ted.com is a better replacement)

I am sad to admit that I need to turn off the magic moving screen and get my butt moving more.

Pre-adolescent boys love to spend their parents' money on such things.

Fit? They're athletes!
The blood they sometimes draw is real.
The spectacular stunts and the painful injuries are too.
Wrestling has come a long way since Supafly Jimmy Snuka, Mr Perfect and Hulk
Hogan.

From a physical point of view, I can appreciate it.
The faux feuds and the trashtalking is unwatchable.
A buddy of mine is really into it. He knows it's not real but still seems to actually want believe in it...

Pretty spectacular at times. (Google laddermatch and see them fly!)

Today back in 1977, "The Love Boat" premiered to stellar ratings........admit it, you watched that and "Fantasy Island"

You mean to tell me Captain Stubbing, Isack the Bartender, Julie the event coordinator, nor Tattoo the midget in the white suit weren't real?

Why is "complete season" always required? They were marketing incomplete seasons at one time?

I went to school with the Steiners, yes it is scripted, but I know Scotty would have gladly done it for real.
Anyway Pro wrestling should start fading out, cage fighting is real, no need to script anything.

Actually, I like to think of Nascar as WWE where everyone gets a matching racing car.

Look at most of the TV shows on right now. How does Survivor keep going year after year?
