More like Porsche is keeping some of their R&D..

I really like the look of it. Have they mentioned it if will only be offered in the petrol/hybrid drivetrain or will there be other offerings? Would be awesome to see it in a diesel or....a diesel/electric hybrid! :D

It's far better aesthetically than the sedan. "Like".

So is this a production model or just a styling exercise?

onewhippedpuppy 09-26-2012 08:11 PM

It looks great, but 0-60 in approximately 6 seconds? That should give the Crosstour owners something to worry about!

For the money I'm pretty certain that you will be able to buy two CTS-V wagons. So now Porsche is selling on MPG?

I think they're showing how they're going to meet tougher fuel economy standards. Of course, that's just a guess.

A styling exercize that hints strongly at future Panamera aesthetics, features, and powertrains

Tougher CAFE / fuel economy standards, as well as CO2 output regulations in Europe. Plug-in Hybrids do pretty good at each. The more of these they sell, the more Cayenne Turbo S models they can sell without imposing a penalty.

Put some real headlights inside those housings and don't change anything else.

Now where are my lotto tickets?

Math 09-27-2012 06:39 AM

this will be a big looking car, humongous.
it looks good, i love wagons.
by the time i can afford a used one, in 20 years or so, i might be fat and in need of a huge car...

stealthn 09-27-2012 06:50 AM

Sooooooooo much better looking on e back end! But I would not call it a wagon, not much space there. I don't know for the money, I would take a Fisker Karma over this, looks way better and is a real electric/hybrid

I agree, it's what the saloon seemed to be fighting against it's whole life.

Surrender can be good.

I get why they would offer a hybrid. But if Porsche (sports car company) unveils a concept, I would expect it to have some sort of nutty 600 HP twin turbo V8. I guess it's just a commentary on the shift in focus within the company.

They'd be criticized. Almost all the "high-performance" concept vehicles are hybrid, turbine, electric, etc.

Consider that the next three "big" production supercars are hybrid:

Ferrari F70 Enzo-successor

Porsche 918 Hybrid

McLaren P1

+1. You hear lots of wanking on car enthusiast web forums, but these high-end manufacturers have a pretty good idea of where they're heading. And take it for granted that they're trying to get there with gobs of performance. :)
