Sure many know this but a bathtub holds a lot more than a few cases of bottled water.
Fill up all of your sinks and tubs.
some for washing ,some for drinking water.

Some for flushing  :D

Man
We have a Can storm chaser just showing footage from NJ.
Looks like already a ft of water on the streets. Up to a vans axles.
I hate to say this but parts of NJ and NY could be gone when this is over.

NYC/UWS boat basin
Water levels actually lower than a few hours ago closer to high tide
The seawall was awash at that time.

While some of you are preparing don't forget to put your ammo in a safe dry place. The looters are coming.

986 and dropping here. Wind has been picking up a bit.

Man... Be safe those of you in the bad areas!!

Winds started to really kick up here in North NJ about an hour or so ago, and Sandy is more than 100 miles off the coastline, and further south. Sandy sure is packing a heavy punch. Intermittent power outtages in the surrounding towns...

Called electric company when I noticed a rather large cracked branch resting on the electric line coming into my house. An hour later, they came and cut the branch down, freeing up the line, which was being pushed down quite a bit by the branch:

I know - not very exciting -- and really not a big deal -- but I'm hoping that the damage from this storm will be minimal for all in the Norhteast...

Fortunately, the winds are tearing off many of the leaves off the trees, and it isn't raining really hard. With less leaves, when the heavy rains come, there will be less branches coming down -- hopefully.

Stay safe everyone!

Z...I'm amazed that they responded to that within an hour. I guess JCP&L is getting serious about this one, after the lumps that they took for last year's "episode". I passed a convoy of 9 tree service co. trucks, with Texas plates, heading east on Rt. 78 yesterday afternoon.

PSE&G is my electric & gas co. But I think everyone is on high alert - and they had plenty of time to prepare for this one...

I think I got them during the lull before the storm.

The winds have kicked up significantly even this past hour -- so I suspect those folks will be very, very busy for quite some time. My hats off to those who put themselves in harm's way in order to keep all of us safer.

Hey guys checking in from North Wildwood, NJ. Fortunately I am not there at the moment but I am getting reports and pictures from my staff. This one is no joke. I rode out Irene last year. Well most every storm before really.

My office is currently under two feet of water. Last time water entered the building was in 1962.

My bookkeeper had to leave her house at 8AM this morning water had entered her first floor.

The dune at 2nd & Kennedy was gone by 9AM and began coming over the newly constructed sea wall that is several feet higher than the old one.

High tide and land fall are still several hours away.

I'll try and get some pics up shortly.

Good luck everybody and stay safe.

I feel for you guys. I have sat home thru 57 years of hurricanes. it's not quite the thrill it used to be having been thru so many but you hurricane virgins are in for an quite the experience. many areas there are actually a few feet lower than 8ft above seal level where I live near the gulf.. and you don't have levees.. I hope everyone's home stays dry and comes thru okay.

genrex 10-29-2012 02:13 PM

Thank you everyone for the updates and pictures!

I just talked with my relatives in Cape May and Wildwood NJ, and they say the bridge to get off the peninsula is closed because of high water. Old folks and their stupid keepsakes... and vice versa. :(

Silver Spring MD, a very unwelcome Sandy just took out my neighbors roof, a little too close for comfort!

wdfifteen 10-29-2012 03:05 PM

Hoping those of you in the east get through it OK. West Virginia is expecting 2-3 feet of snow! Here in southwest Ohio we've gotten gusty winds from the south, west, and east, sleet, spits of snow, and light rain.

Z-man 10-29-2012 03:15 PM

Lights flickering on and off now -- and winds have picked up even more...
