Things to do in Jacksonville

Heading to Jax Nov 21-24 and looking for neat things to do. We've been to St. Augustine and tooled around. Looking for anything and everything, daytime to evening.

And if you so happen to know an area where could toss a fishing line in without too much trouble that would be excellent too!

:( Nothing special about Brumos anymore, they changed the show room to be like the rest of the dealerships:( So much history, now hiddened away..

What part of town will you be staying in?? As for fishing, a buddy is a charter Capt, as to 103rd street go-cart track, another buddy has a shop that sometimes rents racing carts..

This is a lot of fun and a must for car guys..

Yo ShakinJoe and Black73....is this to mean that you don't like Jax and think I would need to scram as fast as possible or that you don't want me in your town?

black73 11-09-2012 07:12 PM

I've been to Jax a couple of times and was not impressed. You are welcome in my town (Nashville) any time.

I'd go visit Byron!! (RacerBVD). He's one of the most interesting people here and I'd love to meet him and hear his stories!

You do know that Jax is the second largest city in Georgia don't you?

abisel 11-11-2012 02:25 PM

Go south for a half hour or so and visit St. Augustine. Get Byron to be your tour guide. And while in St. Augustine, go to the Conch House for dinner and the "view".

Jax is such a large city, square mile wise. Most people that say" dont go" or it sucks for this and that reason cant possibly have seen all or been to every area of jax. I'd say 50-60% of Jax is nice, quiet and beautiful. The closer you get to the beaches, the nicer it can get. There are beautiful areas along the river in Mandarin, San Marco, Riverside and the southside as well. The 5 pts area is great. Have lunch at European Street cafe. If you stay out of the north west corner of Jax, your fine. Head down towards the beaches and take Ponte Vedra Blvd south to US1. You'll drive by some beautiful homes. Hurley Haywoods house, lots of golfers and sports figures. If you want shopping, the St Johns Town Center is a very nice slightly upscale shopping area. You have just about every type of food within a 5 minute drive. Tinseltown Movie theaters.

I agree with Byron about Brumos. Has a different vibe than it did when Bob Snodgrass was alive. Dont know why. I guess its just a victim of the "corporate model". Still, you can see some interesting stuff. Trophies, usually a historic car or two in the showroom.

Go have dinner in San Marco. Catch a movie at the historic 1938 San Marco theater. You can actually order a beer and eat a slice of pizza while watching a movie. Great for a date night. Beautiful historic area.

And Shakin Joe....I beg to differ. Not to be shallow, but all my college buddies from CT were always amazed at the amount of beautiful girls here. Not sure where you were looking, but that comment is just not true!

Ranks as one of the most violent crime cities in the state of Florida consistently in the top three for homicides a recent one was a guy who came for a football game and got his throat cut at a pub at the Landing for talking to the wrong woman.
